Bangladesh will campaign against the widespread use of guns globally, the foreign minister says following the terrorist attacks on New Zealand mosques.

“We’ll raise voice for gun control,” AK Abdul Momen said, “In the US, 48 Bangladeshis have been killed in different convenient shops because of the widespread use of guns."

He was speaking at an event marking the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Sunday in Dhaka.

State Minister for Health Dr Murad Hossain was also present as guest at the event organised by Bangladesh Study Center with its president Uttam Kumar Barua in the chair.

Former vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof Kamrul Hasan Khan, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Study Center Mamum Al Mahtab Swapnil, and martyred intellectual's daughter Nuzhat Choudhury also spoke, among others.

Four Bangladeshis have died – two confirmed by the New Zealand authorities and two by local Bangladeshis - in Friday’s terror attack on two mosques in Christchurch.

The foreign minister said the death toll may go up further as the New Zealand authorities ate yet to complete identification.

Foreign minister's toupée still looks like the awkward fur of a dead animal.

This guy needs to go to Bangkok pronto and buy a better toupée. They make them there.

And color your eyebrows while you're at it.....matchy matchy! :-)

Lol. I'm actually pro-gun. Lots of sectarian village burn-down/looting in BD could've been prevented if the victims had access to firearms. I understand getting angry at a facebook post but organising a mob to burn/loot is not justifiable. Is just "hujuge bangali" behaviour. At worst whoever wrote anything would've got some chor-thappors and some much needed kil-ghushis.

But I don't agree with the gun-nuts either that you need to have rifles with high calibre high capacity mag. At that point it's just your expensive and dangerous hobby. If you love sport shooting so much keep the guns in your local shooting range.

But meh. Ultimately I just can't stand the gun-supported "freedom" or gun-less "trust blindly in the authority" viewpoint from either camp.

Gun control is half the story. Who is going to take on cleaning up social media where hate content is normal?

I am also pro gun as long as those interested to get one have to go through extensive background check(no history of violence) and psychological check before acquiring firearms.

Dr. Martin Luther King did apply for a conceal carry gun permit after his house was bombed in 1956, and he was duly denied by the local white police.
