Bangladesh to import 2,000 MW power from India

Why dont build your own? why u should rely on someone else? did you forget how Indian bullied Nepal by closing the trade route? Iran, China, India (although 25% of their population have never seen electricity in their miserable lives according to world bank data) offered us transmission line we never accepted from anyone except Iran and that too only for 70 or 100MW. which even if Iran close cant hurt Pakistan in anyways..

Hey understand the difference. They are purchasing the power for money untill they get sufficient capacity. On other hand you guys have sold your most importnat to china fo 40 years. They have not sold their land and stratagic asset like you people.

why you guys are selling them when world bank says that your 22% population dont have electricity? if its interim then there is no problem, but it does not seems interim, they first got 600 and now trying for 2000 MW.. they are increasing reliance on India..

I think Bangladesh has every right to do, whatever it takes, to fuel her economy, Importing power from India for long or short-term is not a bad idea. Indians aren't going to start producing extra power at extra cost and decide to shut it down because they have a problem with @BDforever or they feel like it, international agreements don't work like that. Two countries economy dependent on each other is not a bad idea and has been proven world over to work on both parties favour.

They have sold themselves to third world shithole decades ago..

Don't give lahori logic.

Ask your Government why they were begging for electricity from India? Shouldn't they understand that Indians are also there who don't have electricity.

Electricity being generated in North East and Bhutan is surplus. We cannot transport that to other corners of India that would lead to Transmission losses and economically not feasible. So it is sold to the highest bidder.

No wonder Islamic Republic of Pakistan has lowest literacy in South Asia.

its ur businessmen who offered Pakistan but Pakistan said thanks but no thanks.. we are only getting 70MW from Iran.. that too for Gwadar..

Its not in plan to be self sufficient in short or mid term. Though in long term BD will achieve self sufficiency through nuclear, coal and renewable; still BD targets to get enough power from Nepal, Bhutan and Indian NE. Its in the policy to be double sure.

Very good news.

2GB of electricity from India by end of decade should really help in plugging in the shortage that BD will face till the massive projects like Roopur and Matarbari come online in the early 2020s.

This is a win for both BD and India, as BD gets Indian electricity at reasonable rates and the Indians get money for energy that would otherwise be wasted.

@Max : Like already mentioned we are building our own, but due to the fact that BD has been so poor in the past that it was not able to fund the projects necessary, it is around 10 years from when it should become self-sufficient in energy. Anyway 2GW, out of what would then be 20GW of total electricity production, would mean that even in a worse case scenario that India was to shut the power, BD would not be that hugely affected.

no, i have nothing to do with Biharis, Pakistan is my ancestral land.. why u are asking me this shit again and again.. before you there was another Bharti who asked me same thing... Pakistan have very few biharis which can be found in few towns of Karachi.. they migrated from India and then Bangladesh...

Why u sick bharti interfare in every thread related to Pakistan? same reason..

its a win win for both parties...
In India, power surplus states sell their extra capacity to other states. if a bordering state has extra capacity and wants to sell to bd, there should be no problem.
