India may allow Bangladesh Border Guards to build border outpost on Indian soil

In a first of its kind, cross-border cooperation, India is planning to allow Bangladesh to build its Border Outposts (BOPs) manned by Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) on the Indian side to help restrict the movement of insurgents groups.

The idea came up when BGB said that it was very difficult for its personnel to watch and detect movement because of the dense foliage on their side of the International Border (IB), and they could do well if they are facilitated by India to build their BOPs on the Indian side that has clearing and good embankment roads.

Later, it was discussed at the DG level between Border Security Force (BSF) and BGB, and then between the home ministers of the two countries, and given in principle approval.

"The proposal is at an advance stage with the union home ministry and likely to be cleared soon. If cleared it will be the first of its kind border cooperation between two countries in the world. It shows the kind of confidence level the two countries enjoys with each other."

"It will prove highly effective to control the movement of insurgent groups and smuggling cartels from Bangladesh side through the forested area, especially along the Chittagong hill tracts,"said highly placed sources.

Once cleared at the highest level, as it involves tinkering with the international border, the BSF is likely to facilitate BGB in Tripura, Mizoram and Assam that sit on the Chittagong hill tracts (CHT) and some forested patches along the border in West Bengal, and Meghalaya also to build their BOPs on the Indian side.

The first such BOPs of BGB may come up along the international borders in Tripura and Mizoram, and depending on their efficacy in other northeastern states.

After committing terrorist acts, most northeast insurgent groups use CHT route to cross over to Bangladesh and then Myanmar to escape Indian security forces. Many of the insurgent groups have also established camps in CHT.

The Chittagong hill tracts in Bangladesh covering an area of 5,093 sq. miles, touch boundaries with Indian states of Tripura in north, and Mizoram on the east, and Arakan state of Myanmar on south and east, and provides an ideal base for anti-India insurgent groups like ULFA (United Liberation Front of Asom), PLA, UNLF and PREPAK and KYKL etc. India fears that here, they could obtain support from the JMB and other Bangladesh terror groups to launch terror attacks in India.

ami to .................................. hoa galam :o::blink:

why not hire the BGB to gaurd the indo bangla border and move bsf to the more needy parts of india ? saves cash :enjoy:

on a more serious note what if india wants the same from bd, i e bsf in bd territory or something more along these lines, i e indian army/bsf gaurding indian cargo in bd that has to do with the transit ?

setting up an excuse for BSF / IA to enter bd maybe ?:big_boss:

The need is India's, India is allowing BGB to enter to combat the insurgency in the Northeast. Bangladesh doesn't suffer from any insurgency. Hence, the agreement won't have any provision for Indian forces to enter Bangladesh. Besides, the internal politics in Bangladesh won't allow that, there is already huge protests against the Rampal Power Plant.

In fact BD does not require foreign troops to man its people. Urgency is in Indian side. I will not mind if few of our battalion deployed in Agartala and Gouwahati.

based on what you have saidaside from giving bgb much needed counter insurgency experience , one question does come to mind. what else would bangladesh / bgb gain from this ?

Nothing, unless BGB demands monetary compensation from India. It's a token of friendship from us.

I said it before, India should invite BD armed forces in Indian WB, East Behar, East Jharkhand and Indian NE (barring disputed regions) to maintain law and order as a peace keeping force. Of Course UN and India would pay.

Rebels planning NE attacks : Reports
Source: The Sangai Express

Guwahati, October 15 2016: A reported plan drawn up by the Paresh Barua faction of ULFA and other rebel groups, which are part of the United Liberation Front of Western Southeast Asia (ULFWSA), to carry out strikes in the North East has set alarm bells ringing in security circles across the region.

Information about the plan has reportedly been gathered by intelligence agencies in eastern Arunachal Pradesh, where two major rebel groups — the Barua faction of ULFA and Khaplang faction of NSCN — have been very active for several years now.

According to the agencies, outfits under the front have been assigned specific tasks.

These tasks range from targeting security forces, carrying out subversive activities and abducting Hindi-speaking businessmen, said sources.

The intelligence report, which is learnt to have come from a Central agency, has said that while NSCN(K) and ULFA would target security forces in eastern Arunachal Pradesh where India, China and Myanmar meet, PLA, ULFA and NSCN(K) would carry out similar strikes on security forces close to the India-Myanmar boundary in Manipur.

Likewise, ULFA, NDFB(S), GNLA and KLO have been assigned the task of targeting security forces close to the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, while ULFA and NDFB(S) would carry out similar strikes close to the India-Bhutan border in western Assam .

Assam police confirmed having received similar inputs.

They are allowed only to near border area. The only reason is to the border be more vigilant & smooth as from both sides innocents die due to mistakes..We have been tackling insurgency since decades by ourselves. What would be the need to ask BGB who has no experience in such except catching cow smugglers..?

We have experience of 20 years of combating insurgency and successfully eliminating it in the country.
