The power of Bangladesh passport has dropped down three notches to the 101st place in 2021 from 98th in 2020, in the Henley Passport Index.
According to the latest ranking published on Tuesday, holders of Bangladeshi passport can travel to 41 countries, without needing prior visa.

Since a decade ago, holders of the country's passport could travel to 39 destinations out of possible 227 countries, without needing to seek prior visas.

The Henley Passport Index (HPI) has released its first report of the new decade.

The Henley Passport Index, which periodically measures the world's most travel-friendly passports, has just released its latest report -- and an analysis of what might lie ahead.

Among the others in the top ten, Japan has secured the top spot, for the four consecutive year.

The country's passport holders can visit 191 countries without visa.

Afghanistan's passport, like in 2020, has once again been labeled as the least powerful in the world for allowing access to 26 countries.

The best passports to hold in 2021 are:

1. Japan (191 destinations)
2. Singapore (190)
3. South Korea, Germany (189)
4. Italy, Finland, Spain, Luxembourg (188)
5. Denmark, Austria (187)
6. Sweden, France, Portugal, Netherlands, Ireland (186)
7. Switzerland, United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Belgium, New Zealand (185)
8. Greece, Malta, Czech Republic, Australia (184)
9. Canada (183)
10. Hungary (181)

The worst passports to hold

Several countries around the world have visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to fewer than 40 countries. These include:

103. North Korea (39 destinations)
104. Libya, Nepal (38)
105. Palestinian territories (37)
106. Somalia, Yemen (33)
107. Pakistan (32)
108. Syria (29)
109. Iraq (28)
110. Afghanistan (26)

Other indexes

Henley & Partner's list is one of several indexes created by financial firms to rank global passports according to the access they provide to their citizens.

The Henley Passport Index is based on data provided by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and covers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations. It is updated in real time throughout the year, as and when visa policy changes come into effect.

Arton Capital's Passport Index takes into consideration the passports of 193 United Nations member countries and six territories -- ROC Taiwan, Macau (SAR China), Hong Kong (SAR China), Kosovo, Palestinian Territory and the Vatican. Territories annexed to other countries are excluded.

Ah yes , this is what happens when you don't develop your nation and most people want to move away to a better country that actually cares about their people and their talents.

Our Great Leader Hasina Bibi should vehemently denounce this ugly "Henley Passport Index" group and term its members as RAZAKAR of 21st century, and order our own Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) to compile another true Passport Index to challenge that Henley Group data.

Wow even next door neighbors, India and China, won't allow Bangladeshi entry (without a visa).

As folks get jobs locally at the various SEZ/EPZs this will change.

The propensity to go overseas for jobs will slowly cease.

There should be some sort of nationalism and Jihad sentiment (building Muslim states) as well, Indonesian for instant are so few migrating to Western countries. Australia is also just next to our archipelago, but we are not even top 20 of their immigrant.

Just take example of my older brother who has worked as electronics engineers in US, Australia, Spain and others, he comes back and build his family in Indonesia. I believe one of my cousins whose husband is working in Europe now and she is also living there will always retain her citizenship and come back to Indonesia no matter what.

One of my uncle in the past also worked in Australia and even bring his family there for quite long time, he and his family come back and my uncle himself become a lecturer in one of our state universities (Indonesia best universities are all state owned ones) after his come back. So we have to avoid brain drain, particularly among the educated group that is instrumental to nation progress.

Yes brother Indonesia is a great Asian example on how to avoid Brain Drain and how to keep talent at home.

We all know how BJ Habibie came back from Germany and founded PT Nurtanio (Dirgantara) with Mr. Suharto's help.

Indonesia is a wonderful spread out country which is stable enough so this can be done. Bangladesh is too small and too chaotic I'm afraid. Eventually Bangladesh will prosper and stabilize but right now Bangladeshis need to concentrate on low-level semi-skilled value-addition (a la China) to add to export revenue.

Technical research and high level value addition a la Singapore and Taiwan will come later.

Actually I hope you guys who have been living in US will come back some day like how Jews come back from Europe to Israel land, particularly the clever and rich ones. Even they still do it despite the region is not stable and every body hates them a lot.

In the mean time, before that time comes and opportunity in Bangladesh is inshaAllah soaring, I hope you guys can help Bangladeshi and also Muslim entrepreneurs to penetrate Western market. I believe Chinese diaspora around the world is one of the factor Chinese goods can penetrate so deep into every body markets, since their diaspora are every where and many of them are also businessman.

Lmao I'm over trying to become the next Elon Musk ( Got a great app idea hopefully that goes well :) ) but yeah I will only come to Bangladesh when I can invest in my own nation without stupid AL propaganda influence.

I wanna see my people being the most inventive and creative , but that will sure take time and massive amounts of luck/hard and smart work.

Bangladesh's only hope it it's people nothing else

Wasn't my point. It comes from the belief that wise people take hints given by others who know more. So I wonder why close neighbors and major trading partners block Bangladeshi. that is the point of my comment.

Well there is no 'wonder why' answer to this.

Visa facilities are extended to citizens of other countries depending on each country's economic situation and foreign policy (among other things). It is a quid pro quo thing.

Chinese and Indian folks also require Visa to visit Bangladesh. I require a Visa to visit Bangladesh too, being a dual citizen of US and Bangladesh, which is given automatically upon arrival. This is a reciprocal benefit.

But there are hardly any illegal Chinese visa overstayers in Bangladesh while illegal immigrant-Indians in Bangladesh number in the hundreds of thousands and who remit about $6 - 7 Billion to India yearly by Bangladesh Govt. estimates. This is official figure, real figure could be much, much more. Indians overstaying their Visas and also illegal Indian immigrants are a big problem in Bangladesh job market.

Indians sometimes try to obtain corporate level jobs in Bangladesh requiring an MBA, or more.

Tells you the real situation and Job market in India and the power of their passport as well.

Also - India benefits mightily by Bangladeshi visitors to India who spend close to $15 Billion plus yearly in their market in medical tourism and shopping purposes.

Indian visas can be obtained in walk-in booths at major malls in Dhaka and takes less than a few days to obtain.

There is no question of Indian govt. 'blocking Bangladeshis' on visas.

Stop giving everything a Hindutva slant - Kurtis. 8-)

From 1972 to 1980 there was a very liberal visa on arrival agreement between Bangladesh and India. There was even an Indian- Bangladeshi passport issued by India solely for Bangladeshi refugees stranded in India to avail a visa and return to Bangladesh.
Now matters are different...
The neighboring country doesn't want Bangladeshis or their passports.
