Bangladesh Govt plans forming consortium to build Sonadia deep-sea port

and how do you propose we get money for those destroyers??and as far i know, we can facilitate destroyers just fine in our ports (we have facilitated the USS kidd) and i do not see us having the need to built massive ports just for national security(we not going to be having a blue water fleet anytime within the next 10 years).

By 2015,Chittigong Port will be not be able to handle the predicted amount of cargo and our entire industry will suffer because of that. Countries are looking for cheaper routes to import their own things and this allows us to increase and improve bilateral relations as well as make economic gains out of it which in turn will help increase the armed forces effectiveness.

This country has faced a naval blockade in the past. A deep sea port is in our best interest for our national security. If you want to discuss economics, go to an economics forum. Thank you.

Ever there were any projects which were done to meet our future demands.
It was always on need basis. So we always faced blockade on our every prospects.

Im sorry but last i checked you need MONEY for a viable military and for money you need ECONOMICS and POLITICS. Defence can't happen without both they are linked.

As far as the Naval blockade goes, which countries would want to do that? take into note that this port will be used by many countries and if one country does try and block it the others won't be too happy now, would they??

we are a booming nation, the next 11 after the bric. We must look ahead in the future. The chittagong port cannot handle the new generation ships.

and i agree with that but this economy has to be maintained, our booming economy can just as easily collapse if not maintaned however with the port built and the Padma Bridge(if they ever build the damn thing!) it will increase our gdp growth rate above 10% which will allow us to buy the new generation ships earlier than expected. Right now we don't have the budget to buy and maintain such modern equipment on a large scale and at current gdp growth rate, dont expect such ships or equipment within 15-20 years.

However i do understand your point and since i am not familar with coastal geography is there no other location or any other solutuion to prevent naval blockades?

Chittagong port must be further developed and a proper feasibility study must be conducted on the sonadia port if we are talking economics here.

Why would china want to invest on the Sonadia Port??

Hmmm...lets see, well for starters if it's built with chinese assistance then im pretty sure they will want a certain small percentage of transit fees and look at the Padma bridge proposals, they want to invest about 80% ofthe cost and run it for a fews years.why?because they will make gains out of it,they would not want to blockade the port or anything as such.
No country invests in another country without returns and as far as investing in other things such as infrstructure, which do you thing will make more money in the country(now and in 2030)a MAJOR Port which will handle millions of tonnes of cargo or a metro? As you have previously stated we are a booming economy and i am definately sure china will make a few billion off the bridge and port alone in the future
As far as national security goes, how about our nuclear power plant which were not gonna be running for a decade or so since the russians are looking after it,they get their 4 billion for building it but why let them run it for that long??

The port is a need for our national secueity. Lets say in the future Bangladesh plan to get destroyers in our arsenal.....where do you want them to get stationed? also it gives us protection from a naval block.....this is a defense forum.........

Where did you get this precious information that a civilian port is a must for using by the Navy? Naval base and commercial port are two different things. So, if you think our security is at risk, then the govt may build a number of smaller naval ports here and there. No navy ever anchors all its ships in one single port.
