Hundreds of people stormed the Bangladesh Embassy in Bahrain’s capital Manama on Wednesday, ransacking property in protest over delayed paperwork related to immigration, employment and passport renewal, reports Gulf Daily News.

Police were forced to fire tear gas to disperse the agitated crowd that broke the main gate of the diplomatic mission.

Many Bangladeshis and Bahrainis were waiting in line for more than eight hours to get their official documents, including immigration and employment, processed by the embassy.

The news agency, quoting some of the protestors, said they have been visiting the embassy for the last four days to get a token to enter the facility and submit their paperwork, but to no avail.

It was the second time this year hundreds of people protested outside the mission.

“We are here for the last four days, waiting from 2am, but we are unable to get a token,” said one of the Bangladeshi protesters.

“When embassy officials saw the crowd, they didn't open the main door and people had to break-in,” he added.

There were more than 1,000 people and all came to finish their paperwork, including passport renewal, submission of documents to bring in Bangladeshis, and others, the news agency reported quoting the protestors.

“Police intervened and dispersed the protesters by firing tear gas. No one was able to enter and finish their work,” another protestor told the news agency.

Another Bangladeshi said he visited the mission several times a week, but always left disappointed.

“I am coming here almost everyday but stand in a queue for several hours and go back home disappointed,” he said.

“No one comes and helps us and we are tired of this situation.”

“This is not the first time it happened to us, but several times, and I don't know why the embassy is not taking the initiative to solve this problem. This has been going on for a long time and we, the Bangladeshis as well as locals, are suffering."

A Bahraini businesswoman, who has several Bangladeshi employees and clients, expressed his frustration with the "slow" administrative process. She said she had to hire a third party to carry out all her paperwork.

"I cannot take this anymore and have given up," she said.

“I hired an agent, who is Bangladeshi, and hope he would be able to communicate in their language and do something to finish my work on time.”

“It seems this has been going on forever, but no one has taken responsibility to answer us, and embassy officials are rude, they don't even care about people who give business to them.”

An embassy official confirmed the incident, but did not provide more information.

On April 5, hundreds protested outside the embassy after waiting for more than two hours to get their paperwork completed, but a top official denied the claims and said people show up at the mission hours before it opens.
