Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has asked the government to disclose details of the defence deal likely to be signed between India and Bangladesh.

“The media reports say that a security and defence pact is going to be signed between Bangladesh and India,” Mirza Fakhrul told a discussion meeting at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unit.

Pro-BNP Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) organised the discussion meeting marking the imprisonment day of the BNP’s exiled senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.

The BNP secretary general went on saying, “A country can sign a deal with others. But it can’t be acceptable that people will not know about Bangladesh’s agreement with India.

“Everybody preserves the right to know that. What the government is doing and what agreements are being signed must be disclosed. But, the details of no agreement have been made public as yet.”

The BNP leader was also critical of the government’s failure to ink the Teesta water sharing deal.

He alleged that a perception has grown among the international community that Bangladesh is turning to be a militant country, thanks to the government activities.

Fakhrul alleged that the incidents (related with militant attacks and anti-militant drives) are not being investigated properly. “Drama [with militants’ attack] has started afresh.”

He, however, said the BNP doesn’t negate all of those incidents. “But actions should be taken after proper investigation. The government must show acceptable logic.”

In response to a remark of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader that there is nothing called “supportive government” in the constitution, Fakhrul said the constitution is for the people and people are not for the constitution.

“The Awami League has accepted the constitution as bible as if it can never be changed.”

Accusing the AL government of killing democracy, Fakhrul alleged that the government has snatched away people’s freedom of expression and is tactically gagging the media.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, DAB vice president MA Quddus and its secretary general AZM Zahid Hossain spoke on the occasion.

. . .
Bangladesh has no rival to tackle. They can avoid wasting their resources on defense.

.
So officially Bangladesh is becoming India's ____

:D Lol I thought with commissioning 2 submarines Bangladesh will go ahead with its military and they ended up becoming _____ of their neighbor who ditched them back when Bangladesh was established. Bangladesh is a big country with large population, they don't need to live on any other country defense instead they can have their own powerful military.

.
there is already Indian influence in Bangladesh since 1971, no one can deny it.
Bangladesh also required defense as every country required defense for it`s own sovereignty.
but defense should be taken from those countries (if required) that country cant influence in your country easily.

.
India is ready to give all protection to Bangladesh

. . . .
Anyone who threatens them. Internal or External. If they want they can become our protectorate

Oh we give them the water. It is your high and mighty friend that tries to block the water upstream
but it is india building hose contraversial dams not any of your mighty fear.

.
Current Hasina GOvt is Illegitimate and what ever she is doing at the end of the day these pacts have no value .

.
any Bangladeshi member here??

what are the defence deals?

IF deal is about mutual defence, then i would suggest you to dont even thing about that. Modi and his RSS league is hell bent to wipe out muslims from Sub-continent and that means that a bloody war with Pakistan..

.
Please tell BNP to raise the issue in BD parliament. SHW is responsible to the parliament. Unless off course its a rhetorical question to show that they are still alive and kicking.
