Bangladesh Cuisine & Restaurants

I don't see any vegetarian options

This is a different country than India.:)

Most young people in Bangladesh are not vegetarians. But you could order Tofu instead of meat with a lot of items.

There was a time when Bengali staple food was Vegetarian Bhartas (including a version of the Bengan/Brinjal Bharta popular in North India/Punjab) and of course Daal with Rice. But as expected they've always been avid fish/seafood eaters. Typically Bengali cuisine is more mild than North Indian food that is ultra-loaded with spice.

Roti/Chapati/Paratha is widely available in urban areas. Here is a mid-grade Bengali restaurant with their fare which seems vegetarian.

Honestly I have no idea what counts as veg or non-veg...

Is paneer popular in bangla food?

Generally - Negative. Paneer is a North Indian ingredient. It is however made and consumed locally by itself. Typically not used at home as an ingredient but of course offered at restaurants as part of cooked 'Mattar Paneer' and other dishes.

Yes more or less it is. Sandesh, Rosogolla and a myriad of other sweets originated in Bengal and Orissa many eons ago as offerings in Hindu Royal Pooja/Parvana occasions. Kolkata AFAIK did not originate the majority of Bengali sweets - they mainly came from East Bengal (now Bangladesh). Sweets makers (moyra) craft came from many areas in East Bengal, such as

1. Tripura (Comilla)
2. Barisal
3. Rajshahi
4. Faridpur

Following are some leading sweets chains in Dhaka, you can google them. To this day - sweets (mithai) remains a bigger part of Bengali celebrations than other areas in the subcontinent.

Pizza Hut and KFC exists but BK and McDonalds are absent. There are rumors that they may open soon. All restaurants are open and have deals for Sehri and Iftaar and yes sometimes you need bookings for them. One of the images of a Japanese restaurant above even offers a Bento box (Japanese variety meal box) for Iftar.

It is somewhat sad but I think generally gluttony is at its peak during Ramadan than the other way round.
