Full veil is far older than the 6th century, moreover there is no requirement in the Quran to cover the face. It is a personal choice based on religious belief in the context of the sociocultural environment. Polygyny is very common in Sub Saharan Africa, which means it was normal in early human society.But if both the females are accorded equal socio-economic legal status the second female has the right to mehr and to maintainance in case of divorce. She will be socio-economically secured. That is the Islamic system which understands human nature.
