You are delibrately ignoring the fact that religious countries such as those in the middle east have also been in a state of conflict for a long time, and in several cases faced harsh sanctions by western countries. Is Iraq's growth stunted because of their religiousness or because they've fought an invasion and long civil war? Is Palestine poor because they are religious or because Israel steals their land and denies them any room for prosperity?

Let’s not forget these regions were not divided on ethnic lines, false states created by the British and pre existing hatred between people based on sect of Islam, Muslim vs non Muslim contributed in turmoils within the Mesopotamia region

Iraq or Syria in war and Israel steals Palestinian land in itself are proofs that those countries are not progressive. If they were they wouldn't not be in this situation to start with.

And yes, as much as I hate to say it as a Muslim, it is almost undeniable that ultra religiousness hinders progress. The Islamic world being very powerful in the past and now that it has gone to the dogs is also a proof.

What? Saddam Hussein hated islamists, his biggest opponents was the religious and he literally wrote a Quran in his own blood.

Palestinians conflict was not due to Islam either, they fought the Israelis as they were foreigners coming to settle their lands.

Even in Syria, that was due to rebel factions fighting against the political regime of Bashar al-Assad.

Good that they’re helping them out but Somalia is a gone case, a nation that puts religion above all is bound to fail.

Somalian civil war is not about religion but trigerred by the collapse of communist backed government and tribal army fighting for scant resources during the most severed drought in early 90s not to mention the intervention of Ethiopia who hostile toward Somalia government
