Chittagong: No political parties will be allowed to hold any rally for next one month, said Home Minister Dr. Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir on Sunday. The decision has been taken to avert any subversive activities, he told the reporters after inaugurating the Jorerganj Police Station in Chittagong. Those who resorted to violence, vandalism and arson attack will not be allowed to hold rally, he said. Earlier on Saturday Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed ban on National Press Club in the capital for indefinite period. According to DMP press release, all types of rally are banned in front of Press Club till further notice. Activists of several organizations came to police obstruction when they gathered to hold rally in front of Press Club on Saturday.

Dhaka: For the sake of smooth rehabilitation and relief activities in post- Mahasen period, the government has imposed a ban on all political rallies and processions for a month across the country. Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Syed Ashraful Islam, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League, made this disclosure on Sunday. Syed Ashraf also said, “Constitutional rights cannot be ensured all the time, like during the storm and for facing emergency situation like emergency relief and rehabilitation works, a ban on right to protest has been imposed for greater good of the nation.” But, Syed Ashraf said, under the democratic principle, it was expected that one elected government would hand over power to another elected government. The new Awami League proposal came as the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said it has decided to join the coming budget session to discuss the issue of "caretaker government" for election oversight. Syed Ashraf, however, said any unconstitutional system in the name of caretaker government would not be acceptable to the people as the country no more wanted installation of an army backed caretaker government or recurrence of the "1/11 situation". Meanwhile, while addressing a meeting in Chittagong, Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir also said, “No political party will be allowed to hold any kind of rally or procession across the country.” The Home Minister on Sunday said no political party will be allowed to hold any rally or public meeting across the country for the next one month in the greater interest of maintaining law and order. The decision has been taken to avert any subversive activities, he told the reporters after inaugurating the Jorerganj Police Station in Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong at 12:00 noon. Those who resorted to violence, vandalism and arson attacks will not be allowed to hold any rally for the next one month, he said. But still he urged the opposition parties to participate in the upcoming budget session saying said the government is always ready for holding dialogue and it does not need any formality. Terming the parliament as the right place for dialogue, MK Alamgir also urged the opposition parties to respond to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to sit in dialogue. Earlier on Saturday Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a ban on political activities in front of the National Press Club in the capital for an indefinite period. According to DMP press release, all types of rallies are banned in front of the National Press Club till further order. I have mixed feelings about this one. No violence = good. Oppression against rallies= not so good. And knowing BAL, violence seems to be the only way

For a change I think its a good move.it will help opposition party's of BD to restore their position in ppls mind.no matter how bad the gov: currently is doing hartal and rally's is not good for our economical condition.if mass ppl go hungry because of no work due to hartal.the party who gives hartal becomes the bad one.disruption of daily life, destruction of public and gov which by turn is public's) property, loosing millions of export/import money is not a matter of joke.its high time ppl of BD should make a strong stand against hartal and such political stunts.

Awami League imposed defecto state of emergency in stages, ban on rally was just last part of it. Just day before yesterday Awami League sent genocidal RAB and started threatening posture even against holding indoor party standing committee meeting of opposition party.

Pakistan has been humble with all kinds of internal and external problems for years. It is great to see that with the grace of almighty Allah, they are coming out of quagmire and soon they will regain their previous state with new government in place. I wish them prosperity.

Bangladesh was relatively peaceful and it was moving toward economic prosperity. Unfortunately, Bd is cursed with political party call Awami league. If Hasina continue for few more month without reaching an agreement with opposition then Bangladesh may become failed state. Bottom less basket on horizon.

People should always think before placing their support. I believe there are too many dump ***** in Bd otherwise how can a party made up of thugs and lowlife has survive all these years is beyond my comprehension.

I dont really get it. BNP is not even in any position to demonstrate something big. They just dont have that capability anymore. HeI and Jamaat have already backed down. So, what is it the govt. really scared off? Probably this has got something to do with the verdict on Gulam Azam due at the end of this month. But then again Jamaat can't really do anything. They will get killed in hundreds if they try anything.
