What's new

Bangladesh Army named 3rd most powerful in South Asia, 45th in the world, up 11 rank from 2018

Again, it's quite evident these rankings are based on the numbers rather than operational experience. Egypt's relatively better ranking might be due to it's recent acquisition of aerial and naval platforms. Be aware EAF's new acquisitions include Mig-29s, IL-76s, Rafales, Ka-52s, Apaches, Chinooks along with a range of other existing inventory including the F-16s while it's Navy is in the process of inducting FREMM figates, Mistral Class carriers and Govind corvettes from France, Type-209 subs & Meko A200 frigates from Germany among a few

Infact, DPRK is ranked 18 despite having the most outdated military systems

Rankings like these are stupid.

Numbers? or made up numbers that can't be verified.

Second according to it brazil has 43 fighters and is ranked above iran, pak, israel. what serious thing does brazil has to justify its 13th position? perhaps gangsters?

It might be due to the on-going modernization with the Brazilian Navy. They're on the path of acquiring 15 SSKs, 6 SSNs, 30 frigates and destroyers, 5 LSS and 2 helicopter carriers

No, only current active inventory is considered.

Besides given the current economic climate of brasil, i bet even if 10% of that is realized

It is kinda unclear on what their rankings are based upon but definitely not on operational experience but it might be due to the numbers, current and future acquisitions, budget etc. IMO, Pak & Israel should be ahead of Brazil and if nukes aren't taken into account, DPRK shouldn't even be in the top 30

Regarding this thread, Bangladesh will be in 3rd place because Sri Lanka is the only country that comes close to the firepower of B'desh if operational exp isn't accounted for since SL fought against LTTE

One single war/ battle/ skirmish this army won? Any single jet of enemy down lol.. leave it any single drone? what is the achievement of BD army in last 40 odd years?

Yes it did win a big war, not only a battle.

Bangladesh advanced 11 notches on the latest index

The Global Firepower's 2019 Military Strength Ranking has named Bangladesh as the third most powerful military power in South Asia, after India, and Pakistan.

The country ranked 45th out of 137 countries reviewed for the ranking. It was ranked 56th in the previous index.

Among South Asian nations, Indian military has been ranked strongest, while Pakistan has been ranked the second most powerful military.

India has been ranked at 4th position, Pakistan at 15th, Afghanistan at 74th, Sri Lanka at 90th, Nepal at 120th, and Bhutan has been ranked at 137th- least strong country in the world, as per the index.

Maldives was not included in the index.

Bangladesh: Military strength at a glance

The index ranked each countries potential war making capability in land, sea, and air fought with conventional weapons.

There are a total of 160,000 military personnel in Bangladesh.

In individual rankings, Bangladesh secured 53rd position in total aircraft strength, and 54th in total helicopter strength.

In the land strength, the country has 340 combat tanks, 521 armored fighting vehicles, 18 self propelled artillery, 340 towed artillery, and 36 rocket projectors.

There are a total of 89 naval assets in Bangladesh, including six frigates and corvettes each, two submarines, 26 patrol vessels, and four mine warfare.

US army most powerful in the world

The United States has topped the list, followed by Russia, and China.

The other four countries among top eight nations are- India, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

HAHAHAHAHA
Even my Bangladeshi manager had a good laugh reading it.

Which war are you talking about? Could it be the 1965 India-Pakistan war? Please read and learn which of the then Pakistani Regiments received the most number of awards? Please do not cry out that your so-called Martial Race Regiments could not show the fighting spirit the EBR troops showed in your own land and you are asking here about our record.

"On 1 September 1965, regular Pakistani troops crossed the cease-fire line (CFL) and moved towards Jammu. The forces made a quick advance and in the next couple of days threatened to cut Jammu-Srinagar road. The Indian PM gave a warning on 2 September that unless Pakistan withdrew its forces across the CFL, India would respond “at a time and place of its own choosing”. The Indian response came on 5-6 Sept night when it launched attacks across Sialkot and Lahore. The Indian response was full one month after the Pakistani incursion".

"The Indian forces, besides threatening two key cities, poised to cut the vital Grand Trunk (GT) road. At this time, the 1st Battalion of the East Bengal Regiment was deployed in the defence of Lahore along the Bambawali- Ravi-Bedian canal, commonly known as BRB canal. They held their ground despite repeated Indian attacks. At the end of the war, this regiment had the honour of being awarded the highest number of gallantry awards among all the regiments of Pakistan Army".

Big LOL ....Now Bangladesh has something more to celebrate other than economy. I am telling you it is a super power. The mukti are still alive. This time they will lynch Hasina.
Pakistan is no match.

Army of cry babies
We do not cry but you have been crying since the 1965 war when the Jawans of East Bengal Regiment put walls against the IA taking over your Lahore. You have been crying for busting your martial race claim. You started more and more crying when Hindu India took away your 93,000 troops without firing a shot from my country which you came to occupy with a brute force.

Don't cry baby, don't cry any more! Instead, try to become mature.

that was Pakistan Army who fought on Eastren border... one battalion under united Pakistan was supposed to do what it did because it was for Pakistan... my question was any about single achievement in last 40 years since it becoming BA from PA.
read my question again, take a walk, drink a glass of water and then respond accordingly.

Even China hasn't faced any battle nor an armed conflict since the past couple of decades but is still considered as the 3rd most powerful army in the world. These rankings might be based upon firepower, weapons platforms both in quality and quantity, personnel and budget allocation
it has a history right from WWII to 1962 Indo-China war ... Also its military is deployed in a conflict zone of South China Sea constantly .. that example doesn't go with BD Military... bring another one

All we are saying is that this ranking is flawed at so many instances..

First of all I disagree with this so-called list ,, After saying this , BD ranking is almost shameful , If we look at BD economy , population and Location BD should need to be in top 25 …… The right place for BD is in top 25(minimum) ..
