What's new

Bangladesh and the dismemberment of Pakistan

It was inevitable Both Wings were to separated sooner or later. It would have been less Painful if Leaders of East and West had worked with diligence and resolved this issue on table instead of Blood shed and invasion of an enemy.
I have read lots of interviews of people who were around Sheikh Mujib when he was jailed in Pakistan and i am so surprised to read How Mujib Views at the time was lost in Ultra Nationalistic Narrative of Bengalis and Ultra Hatred Narrative of Pakistanis post 1971.
According to Security official who was deputed for security of Sheikh Mujib he was not in Favor of Dismemberment of Pakistan. He even called Tajuddin Ahmad a Traitor and Indian Agent, while he Maintained his Position of Bengali Rights and that West have to let go of East Pakistan and that Pakistan should become a union instead of a Federation. Mujib was disappointed why West Pakistanis rejected to support his six points which were all about devolution of power and empowerment at grass root level instead they choose Feudal and Lords to Rule them Had Poor people of West Pakistan Sided with him he could have Transformed Pakistan into a Welfare State. Mujib Also Hated Politicians of West Pakistan being Lackeys of Establishment. He also hated a lot of Bengali Politicians Including Molana Bhashani.
Anyways their is no way to verify these Claims that the Officer made about talking to Sheikh Mujib during his time in Jail. I find his personality rather interesting to Read about even being a Pakistani. His Speaking style is really Charismatic and Revolutionary.
And as per my Knowledge and Observation. Mr Bhutto seems to be as equally culprit as Sheikh Mujib himself.

And we should all remember one more aspect to 1971 that most people ignore. East Pakistan had more population then West Pakistan. Why we Deployed bulk of our Military and Defensive Equipment in the West when East was more prone to Attack surrounded by India. Being an East Pakistani don't you think one will feel so much insecure?
And the Battle of 1965 was over Kashmir. Did East Pakistanis had any stake in Kashmir Directly?. We were constantly Waging war against a 7 times larger Enemy keeping East Pakistan so much Exposed to an Invasion. Were we taking care of security concerns of East Pakistanis?.
The Invasion of East Pakistan by India. Imagine if that invasion was done in a scenario East Pakistanis Sided with Pakistan. What would have Indians done to them?
Anyways my two cents
while i too came across pakistanis view of mujib, i find it surprising to see his behavior change post war... he didn't prosecute tajjudin... setup private militia led by his son who was affectively a lieutenant... which angered many people in the armed forced who felt cheated and felt they fought for the wrong cause or duped... he didn't do anything about the bangladesh bank robbery by his son or the misbehaving with army officer's wife... eventually he got killed because he changed completely after he returned to bd...

this leads me to conclude only one thing... to be a politician... you;ve to be first and formost a crook... which judging by his behavior pre war post war... certainly points to that direction....

Why dont you keep this to Bangladesh?
well we did... and you will certainly never see any of the shenanigans that goes on in india or pakistan being encouraged in bd.... you can bloody worship the fish for all people care.... but insulting/ discriminating/ bullying because of ones religious beliefs is never tolerated in our country...

You are irrelevant. That is why the humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh is ignored or not touched upon.

From political victims to genocide of Rohingya and Biharis to waging war by refugees. Everything is there in your country.

I have no time for this attention seeking. Grow up or grow relevant

Bhutto maintained that military reprisal had been necessary: If the regime had not acted on the night of the 25th, on the following day the Awami League would have declared the independence of Bangladesh. Everything was made ready for it the state of their armed preparedness, the concentration of their forces and the barricades on the streets were visible proof of this. The general strike called for the 27th was obviously a blind to lead the regime astray. The intention was to proclaim the independence of Bangladesh on the 26th of March after Friday prayers.
A new information to me never hear this before .What is known that plan was declaring strike on 26/27 march If its true Awami league will declare independence then why Army were not prepared for countering the independent move with adequate man power ? with merely 18000+/- troops how could they counter . India backed freedom struggle

Indefinite military occupation was not the motif I think. Because Pakistani attempt to subdue a vast province of 75 million people with mere 45,000 troops do not make any sense. One motif could be they took very seriously of that 'Martial race' boasting where one Pak soldier=10 Hindu/Bengali soldier. So 45,000 Martial Race soldiers is enough to subdue a population of 75 million perpetually. Or another motif could be, they were certain that, they can no longer held East Pakistan one way or another. So instead of letting it go peacefully, they decided to teach Bengalis a 'good lesson' before they depart to sooth their hatred. I think, it was both of a bit of these two motives behind that reckless military assault which had no favorable exit way for them.

Bengali Muslims were controlled by Bengali Hindus. When Bangladesh was East Bengal West Bengal used to heavily control Bangladesh because Muslim Bangladeshis were illiterates largely and were underdeveloped and mainly lived on agriculture with no technical knowledge . Bengali literature had hardly any contribution of Muslims unlike Urdu literature. Bengali literature was 98% dominated by Hindus hence Bengali culture had huge hindu influence.

Muslims of East Bengal (Bangladeshis) first demanded Pakistan and broke India in three pieces. At first in 1905 Bengal was partitioned because Bangladeshis wanted a separate Bengal from West Bengal and it was also difficult for British to control such large Bengal area. So first partition happened in 1905 but Hindus of West Bengal opposed and protested Bengal's partition. In 1911 the Bengal was again rejoined together but it was short lived. In 1946 Bengal witnessed two big riots. Kolkata riots (west Bengal) and Noakhali riots (Bangladesh / East Bengal). Then India got partitioned in 1947 with Bangladesh joining new dominion of Pakistan leaving its history with west Bengal and India.

Again it was short lived. Pakistanis of West neglected Bangladeshis on ethnicity, language, skin color, body and culture basis. Bangladeshis took arms against Pakistan. This time with the help of its arch rival India. Bangladesh then became independent from Pakistan and the arch rival India became ally of Bangladesh till 1975 . Again became ally in 1996 when Awami League got power in Bangladesh. Since 2008 Indian has been ally of Bangladesh because Awami League is in power other Bangladeshis of BNP-Jamaat parties consider India an arch rival nation to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is not entirely secular nation by constitution. It is Islamic nation by constitution with secular fabric. Its state religion is Islam but people of other religion can practice their religions. State religion is Islam means state promotes Islam but since Bangladesh got liberated on secular spirit the constitution was amended and Bangladesh is declared a secular nation with Islam as State religion.
your map is wrong sir

pakistan exist this very day because bengalis pushed pushed for a muslim nation.
west pakistan was/is more of a pretend pakistan tbh... the very ideas that it was founded for is transgressed
idea of Pakistan only fit on west Pakistan a united single Pakistan . how can be a another Pakistan somewhere other cornet on earth ? it was grave mistake .

Even if there was no geographic distance between the two wings of Pakistan, still it would have been separate nations.Look at England and Scotland, they are living under same flag for several centuries, share common border, still they consider English and Scottish to be separate nations. Same would have been the case for Pak pre-1947 if there was no geographic separation. On the other hand, look at Malaysia, geographically divided between East Malaysia and West Malaysia. They have difference of culture, ethnicities and religion between them. Still they consider themselves one nation. These are actually mental things. Pakistan from the day one was mentally divided. Which obviously took a logical conclusion in 1971.
TBH England and Scotland have more commons then we have sir
we have different food culture music language life style almost everything is different that we claim to GB and ask for free paksitan from india . i fully agree BD should be a country . but i am disagree how they handle it . its was shameful .

Religion binds Bangladeshis and Pakistanis together. Culture sets us apart. We are Bengali, Pakistanis are 4 ethnic groups living in same territory. So they have commonalities with each other. We Bengalis have similarities with Indian Bengalis and Sylhetis (can be called Bangladeshi Assamese) have similarities with Indian Assamese.

the only reason i ound irrelevant is because now i'm not talking in pakistan's favor... else i would be having 11+ likes in each comment like from a couple of weeks ago...

atleast out country doesn't have your problems from terrorism to states asking for independence....
and as if we're torturing rohyngas... we are sheltering them and so is your country.... and as for biharis... you have bengalis... it's much worse in pk than in india or bangladesh for the matter

the idea came from and endorsed by the bengalis... and later supported Zinnah's leadership.... we were fighting for independence from british while you guys were still supporting them.... this is why the british mocked us as physically inferior so that there wouldn't be another uprising started by the bengalis and joined by the others....

Many won't take it because accepting it means that Nation did left bunch of Jokers at the helms of state affairs.

They never were one country Pakistan and Bangla are two different regions have nothing in common

and what good did an "islamic" constitution did to pakistan... for all i know... it has been sent to destination f**cked by the ideology.... religion and state affairs should never mix
Religion has nothing to do with it,how many times BD has tried fighting Super Powers?
We have been doing this for 70 years and it has consequences.

Kiddo Pakistan itself started from East Bengal.

Pity on your mental level,in our history it's biggest defeat and shame for us.There is no other tale in pages of history when such a huge area and population has been surrendered.
