Bangalore metro rail begins operations today

First, my hearty greetings and best wishes for all Bangaloreans. Bglr metro has been a challenging task for BMRCL and can say that it did not disappoint.

However, having said that the current route of the metro will hardly will help in decreasing the traffic.

The main points from which traffic flows like the ganges into teh city is Electronic city, ITPL, Marathalli, KR Puram, Banshankari, Mysore road, Baneerghatta road, Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Silkboard, Bommahalli, Begur, etc.

None of the above has been covered in the metro rail map, neither they exist in future plans.

Having my fingers crossed on this.

It will take a while but something is better than nothing. The current proposed metro will definetely have an impact on traffic. Once the North south corridor and the route from Airport is taken care off, a large chunk of the traffic will disappear.

Excellent. Now I won't have to drive in Bangalore's crazy traffic whenever there's a conference to attend to. :P. But I'm wondering what made them choose the pinkish magenta color. Maybe to get a different feel than usual grey and blue. Congrats to all members from Karnataka on your state's success. Jai Ho!

I actually like the color and the 'kolam' logo which is marked outside homes to welcome guests. Its very vibrant. Chennai metro's logo is really ugly and unimaginative.

LOL.. as a comedian said, there are thousands of parts inside the train. But we still believe the coconut is gonna make the train run smooth. :lol:
@the emboldened part-not we,it's you!
The breaking of the coconut symbolizes decimating one's ego and not lubricating the mechanical parts:hitwall:

Namma Metro: Centre to grant Rs 25,000 crore (US $ 5.20 billion) for Phase II

It was an auspicious start for Namma Metro, on the day Reach-I was inaugurated, as the Union government assured support to the upcoming phases.

Union minister for urban development, Kamal Nath, who inaugurated the Reach-I, said the Centre would
extend support to the complete construction of the remaining phases.

Nath said the Centre would approve the Reach-II of Namma Metro, which will cover 72 km, and grant Rs25,000 crore once the state submits a proposal for executing the project. Reach-II of the project will connect Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield, Mysore Road to Kengeri, Hesaraghatta Cross to Bangalore International Exhibition Centre on Tumkur Road, Puttenahalli to Anjanapura, RV Road to Bommasandra, and Indian Institute of Management on Bannerghatta Road to Nagawara.

Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda said the proposal would be taken up in the next cabinet meeting. He said BMRCL would soon take up the work of High-Speed Rail Link, connecting BVR Parade Ground to the Bengaluru International Airport. Kanakapura to be made satellite town “We are looking at sub-urbanisation and developing tier-II and tier-III cities and towns and as part of the sub-urbanisation plan, Kanakapura would be made a satellite town,” he said.
