And the last time I drank was about 30 years ago when I did some "experimenting". Nothing stronger than a good cup of tea has passed into my mouth since. My prohibition is not informed by religion but based on entirely secular reasons. I don't like losing control over myself. I get either too sullen or way to aggressive. Further I don't like the bad effects of drink on my health, my pocket. and most of all I have seen the extremely deleterious effects of drink of society. In particular nothing is worse than seeing a woman drunk. Nothing.

Of course in my earlier incarnation I took full advantage of women who were drunk but I guess looking at it now I can see that is one of the ugly aspects of Western society. One of the great achievements of Islam was creating "dry" cultures. I do not mind others drinking as long as nobody comes into my home with drink or drunk. In which case they will be thrown out head first out.

I also have some very, very religious people in my family. My nephew is beautiful big huggy bear and supports a full on flowing beard, shaved head and Chechen warrior look. I love him dearly for his deeply held religious views, his sincerity, his discipline. But he knows I am full on secularist because I believe religion and politics create a deadly combo. to the detriment of both.

So don't make assumptions gentlemen.

I my self drink two three beers daily and it is quite fine because these beer don't make me drunk but made my mood and also I eat very well after that.

I didn't say anything about your character especially about drinking. I just wanted to point out that you are a secular and your ideas are totally opposite, as far as I know, to those of Allama Iqbal's - the founder of Pakistan.
By the way, many people perhaps imagine about me having a long beard etc.....I naturally have no beard. I wish I had

I agree with your views on drinking but I have seen that most of the Swedes don't get violent after getting drunk...However I have seen drunk women doing pretty nasty stuff even at my doorstep...really disgusting and a few times I called police.

I have the highest respect for Sir Allama Iqbal. I place him higher than Jinnah. Indeed I place Allama first, Rehmat Ali second and jinnah third on the trioka of the making of Pakistan.

Of course you might find this strage coming from hardcore secularist like me. I think Allama was continously tweaking and improving his ideas which is a quality of all great thinkers. I think Allama moved towards ideas that would converge with my thinking. For example although first he was against Turkish secular republic but later resoundly supported it as the way forward. He also was for "reconstructing Islam" in light of the modern world and felt Islam had been polluted with too much backward Arabic traditions. He wanted these "removed" from Islam in reconstruction of Islamic thought. I am pretty sure if he was alive today he would be killed for saying any of these things. As you know he was not fan of the traditional mullahs.

I don't have time now but I will give you some links later.
