Ban cheese imports? Pakistan discusses outside-the-box ideas to avoid IMF bailout

So is it better to woo foreign investors with "you will sell lots of cheap and tacky phones in a poor market" rather than "you will sell lots of expensive phones in a rich market"?

If import is stopped, all that will happen is increased smuggling.
Munnay go watch Pogo.... you are going around in circles and will give yourself a headache. Don't put too much stress on your brain.

wide-ranging strategy session on how to avoid seeking a bailout from the International Monetary Fund

The odds of another IMF bailout remain pretty high, almost a certainty. Ban all the cheeses and phones you want. The pain will be spread across all classes, not just the top 10%.

IMF will put harder conditions. And next time IMF may not even bother because by 2023 Pakistan will have to start paying back CPEC loans. Right now they may not have much of choice because debt isn't Chinese.

It will be informative to see what solution this government will come up with to deal with the economic situation. Their decision is expected by the end of this month. Not much time to wait.

It would be interesting to know as to who is the major supplier of Cheese to Pakistan. Holland by any chance? Geert Wilders and his evil cartoons connection! Anyone?

It’s best time to start MADE IN PAKISTAN campaign. Ask foreign companies to invest in automotive industries so we can build 100% of cars, buses, trucks at home. If not electric, hybrid car technology should be introduced in Pakistan.

There is zero relevance between competing for exports and the need to address imbalance between import/export. What you propose makes no sense. Pakistan has to address the ludicrous imports. We are importing way too much and exporting very little. Also much of what we import can be easily catered by the local industry. No doubt PTI is going to aggressively address the imbalance and more power to them.

The solution is simple. Drastically cut on imports and start exporting. Both go hand in hand.

Because our goods aren't competitive globally. This is not rocket science.

Stop being sour. The PML-N era is gone. There is no point in being demoralized. Join positivity.

Not a fan of political family dynasties. Being positive doesn't mean you shouldn't deal with your problems.

In fact, the poorest will suffer the most. Even marginal increase in cost of essentials will make their budget go haywire.

This govt is going to take some really cruel decisions as much as Poor are concerned. PDS scheme has been put on hold. Gas and electricity prices are set to massively increase. Bad days ahead for poor people.

Let us wait for the government to declare its plan to deal with the economic situation.

Any investment made will look at the risks and the returns, and be carried out only if those two things are favorable.

Pakistan has so much potential, its just that Pakistanis themselves do not realize. Instead it is more important for them who is Muslim and non-Muslim.

Potential is always unrealised. If someone does it, its done, not potential. :-)
