Ballistic missile Nasr: A bigger threat from Pakistan

@Safriz:

Our nuclear doctrine is clear that any use of a nuclear weapon on Indian territory OR ITS TROOPS ANYWHERE will merit massive and disproportionate retaliation. Using nasr to stop an invading division would be the stupidest thing pak can do.

Also, remember that Pakistan's population is concentrated in a few urban centers, and that two cities pretty much lead all of Pakistan's productive activity. A full scale nuclear war is the last thing Pakistan would want.

Any smart war planner in pak would use nukes only if the existence of the country itself is threatened. Despite all the chest thumping, I am pretty sure that pak army generals are not so thick as to use a nuclear weapon on a division of Indian soldiers.

Nasr is for use inside Pakistani territory. If India advances inside Pakistan and Pakistani forces are overwhelmed,it may be used..
Use "Inside Pakistani territory" isnt the same as used on Indian territory...

Doesn't matter if its Indian territory or Pakistani..use of nuclear force on Indian Soldier will invite Nuclear retaliation.......it is in built in India's Nuclear doctrine

in the 2003 version, there is an important qualifier: India will consider the use of nuclear
weapons in response to a ‘major attack’ on India or on Indian forces anywhere with
chemical or biological weapons (CBW).

BUt all this Nuclear talk is hokum and nothing else....it doesn't matter if india nukes pakistan first or pakistan nukes india
Both the countries will suffer from nuclear fallout
Our Water sources and land will be Contaminated with nuclear dust making it unusable for decades if not centuries
Both India And pakistan will be A nuclear waste barren land Inhabitable for decades ...
So much for nuclear jingoism

No wonder India wanted to buy the patriot missile system, although i think the Akash missile is scapable of intercepting the Nasr if and being mobile it can travel with corps/divisions etc. This is surprising seeing how Pakistan would resort to nuking its own territory as a way to stop invading forces definitely a double edged sword but a deterrent nonetheless.

.
This implies that if some UN contingent including few Indian troops is attacked with either a chemical or a biological agent in some of the remotest part of the world, India could retaliate with nuclear weapons.

So India will attack under the cover of UN contingents? :disagree:

. .
It means India can attack independently without any hesitation.

You just don't nuke an entire country over some troops which were invading into the enemy's territory. Nuclear responses are not comparable to the conventional ones. This means that nuclear responses from both sides would have to follow a step-wise escalation, from counter-force to counter-value targets, during which both sides hope to prevent further escalation.

Doubt that.

Unlike India, Pakistan don't have something very important called - STRATEGIC DEPTH, many of it's important cities are very close to Indian borders, so when Indian Forces will cross the border to strike deep inside Pakistan & PA would be seriously thinking about using tactical nukes on IA forces, Indian troops will be very close to Pakistani main cities, so now they have to strike the enemy where they themselves will get hurt the most, like for eg. Lahore. So not only will it kill thousands of IA troops (nos. may not be large since IA would have already developed a counter plan to the Nasr by going into enemy territory in discrete formations rather than massive accumulation of man & material) but also the Pakistani Civilian population as well not to mention it will breach the Indian NFU policy since it states clearly that any attack on Indian Troops elsewhere with NBC weapons will also be considered as a first strike.

A truly MAD scenario in which Pakistani civilian themselves will be the biggest casualty.

EDIT: @Safriz i think it will be better for the Pakistani establishment to rather not issue threats like usage of Nasr on Indian Armed forces & instead answer the queries of Pakistani Civilians as to why there own country is seriously thinking about using nukes on it's own citizens??

In military planning,It doesn't work like that..

In military planning may be, but with nukes it doesn't.

This is the reason why nobody has ever dropped a nuke on anyone since 1945.

The moment X drops on Y, Z get an excuse to drop the same on X.

You drop a nuke within Pakistani terretary and it will give an excuse to the west to do so.

Use "Inside Pakistani territory" isnt the same as used on Indian territory...

As India won't cross the international border under any circumstances, but the scenario is entirely different for LOC. As both countries consider it as their own territory, so using tactical nukes on disputed territory will result in nuclear retaliation.

Well it does not matter if the nuke is used in Pakistani territory , India NFU doctrine is very clear on this.

It was for this reason that after the Op Parakaram was called off, the Cabinet Committee on Security met, and the press release issued thereafter constitutes the public statement of our doctrine as of now: that an attack on India or Indian forces anywhere by chemical, nuclear or biological weapons would involve a massive nuclear retaliation.

From Indian point of view a Pakistani first strike against an Indian strike corps over Pakistani territory will be a blessing in disguise as it will untie our hands from our NFU doctrine, allow us to give a massive nuclear retaliation against Pakistani weapons and missile bases(thereby limiting Pakistan's second strike options), for very little Indian losses in nuclear terms.

From Pakistani point of view, it would have hoped, that it did not waste its " free first hit" on such a small weapon, that too on its own soil.

What is the use of this small range nuke capable missile ??

Use of nuke in any form (even on these missile ) will lead to full responce from Indian Agni series

What you say ????

We want launch a nuclear strike on your land. If you still wanted to go ahead...then its your choice. Thousands of years of dharmic history, civilization etc will be turned into smoke. After few centuries, humankind won't even remember that there were some "hindus" and something called "dharmic civilizations" etc...

There is not a bound that says these missiles will only be used by PA inside Pakistan territory to ruffle indian troops that may be in attepmt to invade but it can be used in a other way around scenario too , PA can also use it on indian army formations inside indian territory by firing it from close the border or in a PA offensive an attempt to invade indian territory these missile can be used to nullify any resistance .... if this article mentions only one scenario let not be restricted to only that ... its obvious and makes sense a weapon can be used when needed in any possible scenarios ....these even if said by officials are just ways to make other party allude

Pakistan will obliterate f*lthy hindus from india invading our lands. We don't want Pakistan to become f*lthy like our Eastern neighbor. So we will use any means.

Scary Scenario mate. You got the evil yindoo running around for cover with your verbal nukes.

Now why dont you shoot down a couple of drones and put your money where your mouth is.

India simply does not have megaton size nuclear warheads.
Without that there is no chance of a massive retaliation as in the wet dreams of indian members.
Both countries have kiloton sized warhead which can be used for tactical role.
So if the time comes when use of kiloton or subkiloton sized warheads on advancing Indian army,Pakistan can do so without worrying about MAD,as india is incapable of doing so anyway.
When did india make Hydrogen bomb?.....
