Saudi-backed Bahraini forces have clashed with anti-government protesters after the funeral of a slain journalist outside Manama.

The clashes broke out on Friday after Bahraini security forces attacked a gathering of thousands of people who had attended the funeral of journalist Ahmed Ismail al-Samadi.

Al-Samadi, 22, was reportedly shot and killed by Al Khalifa regime forces in the village of Salmabad, outside the capital, during a demonstration on March 30.

The demonstrators called for the release of all jailed activists and protesters and demanded that the Al Khalifa regime step down.

The UK-based human rights group Amnesty International has urged the Manama regime to free prisoners of conscience and investigate human rights abuses committed by its forces.

Meanwhile, Bahraini activists are pressing ahead with their demonstrations against the Saudi-sponsored Al Khalifa family across the country, even as the regime’s security forces continue their brutal crackdown on peaceful protests.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds more have been arrested since the beginning of anti-regime protests in mid-February 2011.

Anti-regime demonstrators hold King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa responsible for the death of civilians during the popular uprising.

iranians have lost high ground because whatever is happening in syria and iran backihg them, now they can't back bahrini shias too!

^^^^^^^
Iran Can back Shias in Bahrain, can arm them, topple Bahraini regime in one day.
But unlike the situation in Syria,we are not cowards to secretly arm rebels and cause more violence.
You do know that Cowards are arming Syrian rebels and terrorist gangs.

Hey don't troll and come up with stupid comments which you know nothing about and don't bring Pakistan in it as it has nothing to do with it ... plus you wouldnt know anything about that part of the world.

Sometimes I really become frustrated of these double standards by Iran. I remember They warned Pakistan not to support Bahrini King but when syrian conflict start, they start sending their troops and arms to Syrian government and that's when Street protests in syria get ugly and violence started.

We can take Bahrain for breakfast, but thats not our priority for now

Here is one thing,if syrians are protesting they are extremists and playing in foreign hands but if bahrainis are protesting its their
self right to protest against a dictator govrnment.......so much of double standards here....

There's no evidence that Iran has sent even one soldier to Syria. Only western media accusations that can't be verified independently and some fake videos showing poor hostages as mercenaries. The last one I saw was obviously fake when the rebels claimed that because one of the hostages had a military service card he worked for the IRGC. lol. Every boy in Iran finally gets a military service card when he's done educating and have gone to the military service after he's 18. Street protests in Syria got ugly very soon and there were no Iranian troops in there, unlike Bahrain where protestors are unarmed but Saudi soldiers are well-equipped and are killing the innocent people.

I disagree with you. The differences:
1- Syria is not a kingdom which means they don't have a king and they have the right to vote. Bahrain is a kingdom, which means that the king of the country considers the land as its paternal heritage. Not to mention that the Arab kingdoms around the Persian Gulf are remains of the British colonialism and shameful oil contracts in our region that have caused today's Middle East to be a backward consumer region of the world.
2- Assad has agreed with an election, and at the end the Syrians, the ones who really want the good to happen for Syria, can vote to choose their destiny. The Bahrainis will not have the chance to vote because the king is imposed on them anyway.
3- Bahraini supporters are unarmed while Syrian rebels are armed and have killed Syrian soldiers too.
4- Bahraini supporters haven't asked foreign countries to interfere in there militarily, some Syrian rebels have welcomed NATO intervention.
5- Syria hasn't invited any foreign country to kill its people, Bahraini king has invited and supported foreigners like Saudis to come and kill their country men.
