The Royal Bahrain Naval Force has contracted Selex ES to upgrade six of its ships, the company announced on 8 September.
Selex ES said the upgrade work is worth more than EUR50 million (USD56 million) and will be completed within five years. The value of the contract also includes training services and logistics.
But the company disclosed neither the vessels to be upgraded nor the upgrade package they will receive.
ANALYSIS
The Royal Bahrain Naval Force is small and mainly comprised of patrol craft, while the value of the contract indicates the package is for vessels of some size. This could point to the contract being for an upgrade of the service's two Al Manama-class (MGB 62 Type) corvettes and four Ahmad Al Fateh-class (TNC 45 Type) fast attack craft.
