Bahrain deports 450 Pakistanis after alleged Torture

At least 450 Pakistanis who were sent to Bahrain to join its army were deported back home after allegedly being kept hostage for 19 months, Express News reported on Thursday.

The young Pakistanis, who are all university graduates, were issued visas by the Pakistani government and were promised a job in the Bahrain Army with the starting salary of Rs100,000. The Bahrain Army, however, took the young Pakistani men hostage and tortured them, according to one of the deportees.

The Pakistani men were not given food and access to toilets for five days and were not allowed to phone their family and friends back home.Around 100 more Pakistanis are expected to be deported tomorrow.The young men, protesting against the Bahrain government, urged the United Nations to take notice of the incident.

Last month, around 700 Pakistani workers were stranded in Saudi Arabia after their passports were taken and they were not allowed to work. A Turkish company had hired these Pakistani workers through different travel and recruiting agencies during 2011 after payment of a hefty sum against visa issuance.

What was the reason of such torture to so many I wonder ... did Pakistanis do something bad there?

Alot of Pakistanis are recruited in Bahrain Law enforcement agencies, retired PA personnel etc. They are kind of depending on Pakistani people there to maintain law and order.

More people were brought in during the Arab spring period.

The relations at state level have been very good and cordial, but the bone of contention is the Pakistani force in the Bahrain security apparatus.

Many are naturalized citizens of Bahrain, and some Shia of Bahrain are not really liking it too much, this problem flared up some time ago as well...it's better I leave it here though.

Well Simply because no entry level desk job will pay 100000 PKR a month .

Seriously??? Considering law and order situation in Pakistan, I guess that's really a brave move!!

But anyways what went wrong that Pakistanis were made prisoners rather than would be security/law enforcement professionals....

Read the article properly before declaring it "fishy" ... Bahrain offered 100,000/month salary initially.How much Uni Graduates earn in Pakistan?

Really ? I know at least three people from my University in Indian Armed forces even after B.Tech degree and getting placed in companies like TCS etc.

Armed force officers get great respect unlike a guy who do a desk job. The salary is better or equal to what Engineers get in start.

this is seriously a humiliation of Pakistani citizens and a Bahraini middle finger to express "you are our slaves" attitude.
Wonder what the govt is going to do about unlawful imprisonment and torture of its citizens.

bahrain required experienced people, who could start immediately.

However courtisy some "middle men" and their "agents" a lot of other young people made use this policy and submitted
false credentials.

Now either it was done by these young people themselves or it was done by the agents / middlemen / Human resource suppliers.

The Bahrain government had a screening process and they found out which ones were on false documents and which were not.

The Bahrain government had no plans of detaining these people; however they did not know what to do with them either !
for all it's worth, there could have been Iranis in them too.

Thus to deliberation took too long, and they were detained in whatever facility was available ( Bahrain is a very small country / 30 mins of car ride is enough).

The way this story has been published reminds me of Iran religion.
