BAF replaces contingent in Dr Congo

DHAKA, Oct 3, 2012 (BSS) - Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) is going to replace its contingent at United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Presently deployed three Bangladesh Air Force units in Congo will be replaced by another more three new units, an ISPRE press release said here today.

The new contingent consists of 356 Bangladesh Air Force members including 77 officers. Out of 77 officers, this time total 9 female officers are proceeding for the Peacekeeping Mission, it said.

As part of the contingent replacement process, a 80-member BAF team left Dhaka for Congo by UN chartered aircraft on Tuesday night.

Senior Bangladesh Air Force officers were present at the airport and saw them off. Monajat was offered seeking more excellence of the contingents in future at departure lounge of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) prior to their departure for Congo.

Remaining contingent members will leave Dhaka for Congo by 22 October 2012 in different flights.

Earlier, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari briefed the contingent members at BAF Base Bashar on September 23 and offered special munajat for success of the mission.

The new contingent is comprised of Bangladesh Utility Aviation Unit, Bangladesh Air Field Services Unit and Bangladesh Air Transportation Unit led by Group Captain Muhammad Sayeedul Hasan Khan, Group Captain Muhammad Parvez Islam and Group Captain Md Badrul Amin respectively.

Bangladesh Air Force achieved confidence and respect of Congo Government and general public by discharging their duties in mitigating conflict with efficiency, professionalism and sincerity.
