LONDON, Sept 10 (Reuters) - BAE Systems (BA.L: Quote, Profile, Research) has won a new contract worth 2.5 billion pounds ($4.7 billion) to upgrade Saudi Arabia's ageing fleet of Tornado fighter planes, the Business reported in its online edition on Sunday.

The contract to upgrade the 80-strong fleet of Royal Saudi Air Force Tornados involves all attack versions of the Tornados in the force which the Saudi government wants to keep on until 2020, the British newspaper said on its Web site.

"It will mostly be done in the UK and then all the know-how will be passed on to the Saudis," the paper quoted an unnamed Saudi source as saying.

The deal was signed between the two governments last week, it quoted another source as saying.

In August, the Saudi Defence Ministry said it and Britain had signed an agreement for the Gulf state's purchase of 72 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, which analysts have said could be worth more than 6 billion pounds.

And the BAE employees have one more reason to thank the Saudis. They always come to the rescue of their jobs and this time, its for the long haul.

Wow baby! The Saudi Airforce will soon have 72 brand new Typhoon fighters for air-superiority role, plus the 80 New multirole GR4's upgrades, this would allow them with a mighty 1-2 combo punch. The GR4's would literally play the ground attack role while the Typoons go toe-to-toe in the role of aerial combat.

The Saudis know's what they're doing, fair enough.

In the gulf war Saudi airforce flew more sorties in combat than the PAF did in its entire history of combat (im making this up, but is it true?)
