It seems that, now, in developing countries, no politics is possible, without abundant and ill-gotten money.

Money matters in developed countries too, but in developing countries the source is almost always ill gotten wealth. You need front businesses to launder your money and that is where Vadra types come in. What else is their locus standi in life? And its not just money nowadays. You need a huge IT cell if you are going to make any dent on public psyche. The game has been upped too much for any new entrant.

I understand that, but my point was different. it doesn't matter if elections are democracy or not, I'm sure Kanaiya cares more about elections than about some revolution to establish "real democracy". I also am not educated enough in political theory to comment on Gaddafi's democracy and electoral democracy and which one is actually better.

Sharjeel's case and experience is a sad one. Didn't he spend some time in jail too ? He is correct about the "Jaichand" jibe against the ABVP member but he also should have considered that Shehla Rashid - a female and a Muslim - was from AISA and a vice president of the JNU Students Union.

it's a rather trivial thing and maybe not relevant here, but I think he missed the point about Jaichand. Mir Jafar and Jaichand are used as synonyms of traitors, and they did betray the people they were supposed to be loyal to (their king). right wingers may use them as traitors to some greater concept (like whole of India, Hinduism, Islam, the people etc etc) but whether or not that applies is not relevant to point that they were indeed traitors. using their names in such a way doesn't necessarily mean you endorse the right wing uses.

Well, when unfortunately a lot of the nation, especially Godi Media, was baying for blood of some JNU students in 2016 wasn't it Rahul who visited JNU at least once in solidarity with those students ?

Though I will reiterate that the INC has been a fence-sitter for a long time. This somehow was enhanced when Manmohan Singh as PM said that the biggest threat to India were "LWEs" ( Left-wing Extremists ) meaning the Naxalites, when instead he should have been saying that of right-wing extremists ( of all religions ).

A video of Congress leader and former student activist Kanhaiya Kumar has gone viral on social media in which he can be seen dodging questions about incarcerated activists Umar Khalid and Meeran Haider.

While speaking to the media in Bihar's Sivan, a reporter asked him a question about the two activists, to which Kumar can first be heard saying, "Does Meeran Haider belong to my party?"

When the reporter told Kumar that he is with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Kumar said: "Then why are you asking me about him?"

The reporter then told Kumar that Umar Khalid has been his friend and acquaintance in the past, to which Kumar said, "Who told you so?"



Both were also slapped with sedition in a case in which the Delhi Police claimed that the two were a part of an event to commemorate convicted terrorist Afzal Guru where 'anti-India' slogans were allegedly raised.

Jamia student Meeran Haider was arrested and charged with sedition in December 2019 amid the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA). He was also the head of the Delhi youth wing of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Several people and activists took to Twitter to call out Kumar over his "forgotten ties" with Umar Khalid.

Reacting to the video, activists and founder of United Against Hate, Nadeem Khan said that "all those incarcerated activists fighting to uphold the democracy and the Constitution are our friends."

Activist and former student of Jamia University, Safoora Zargar also took to Twitter to slam Kumar.

Several others shared old pictures of Khalid and Kumar together.

Jamahir's comment : I am terribly disappointed with Kanhaiya. First he, being a well-spoken, knowledgeable and anti-Capitalism / anti-Right, person, raised high hopes among the progressives by being in a high position in the Communist Party of India but he misbehaved there. Then he left that party and joined the Indian National Congress and raised hopes of turning that party towards the Left but now he has betrayed Umar Khalid, the now-in-jail-for-one-year comrade from his JNU university days.

Kanhaiya is just a Brahman propped up by Brahman dominated mainstream media. They have been playing this game for a long time. A progressive Brahman should be tested with some psych analysis before giving position of power. Even Ravish Kumar another Brahman like Kanhaiya, would show his true colors eventually.
