The South Korean Tekken scene has had an iron grip on the major tournament circuits for many years now, but an unexpected challenger appeared this year with Pakistan's young talent scooping up big wins.
VS|Arslan Ash faced unimaginable odds before taking home the EVO Japan 2019 championship for his country before repeating his performance for EVO 2019. Now, another fresh face to the international scene in GG|Awais Honey bested Tekken legend ROX|Knee at FV Cup — which was reportedly the first major outside of Pakistan he ever attended.
After getting sent to losers bracket by THY|Chikurin, Awais faced the long road on the edge of elimination needing to overcome talent like Talon|Book and Yamasa|Nobi with his beyond solid Akuma play to reach grand finals where Knee was waiting for the challenger.

The former EVO champion came out swinging with his Marduk, but Knee never really found a solution to the relative newcomer's gameplan. Awais closed out game two with a clean perfect round going into the reset game where he would send Knee to losers taking three straight games.

Things got much closer in the second set, however, with Knee switching over to Kazuya and quickly gained momentum against the guest fighter getting the first game after the reset.

FV Cup would all come down to a game five scenario with both players patiently feeling each other out, but Awais ran away with it taking all three rounds including a perfect to close things out.

There were two other Pakistani competitors in the top 8 of FV Cup as well with Fate|Bilal and Fate|Khan, so we'll definitely be needing to keep an eye on how this South Asian scene continues to advance especially with Arslan Ash in a position to take EVO Japan, EVO and the Tekken World Tour Finals all in the same year.

Below you can check out back-to-back perfect rounds from Awais in his match against Book plus his full grand finals set against Knee below.

Wow great & congratz! It goes to show we have talent but we never utilise or create an environment where talent can thrive.
