AVIC’s Wing Loong I Operational With PAF

It is from 2015 in-fact. The same hangar isn't in use anymore. However, we might have gone with JV and reportedly, PAC is in MALE business by itself. I wouldn't ignore the fact of JV after initial interest.

Not accurate.

That's an older sat photo from Bard U Drone Center, and at best it indicates that the PAF was testing the Wing Loong. Otherwise, we have our own MALE UAV program. And this particular drone may very well be that and not Wing Loong.
Is our own MALE using Turbo jet or prop?
Similar to Global HAWK or Chinese Soaring Dragon/Divine Eagle

The news was incorrect. In fact, the sourcing itself was dubious since it came from a Facebook Page of a fan website about the Sherdils. I reiterate, the PAF is working on its own MALE UAV project.

Is our own MALE using Turbo jet or prop?
Similar to Global HAWK or Chinese Soaring Dragon/Divine Eagle

PAC/AvRID's current project is closer in the size and capability of the Anka, Wing Loong and CH-4. If they succeed with this project, they could proceed towards a larger design like Global Hawk or CH-5, or instead, skip that and move to a stealthy attack UAV.

I would love to see an article in which you compare the advantages of prop UCAVs compared to turbofan and vice versa. Or rather, how can turbofan uavs be a help in aerial fights BVR and WVR

That'd be a really tough topic because we don't know enough (publicly).

Though they've been around for many years now, UAVs are still 'new' for a lot of countries.

Today's applications are primarily surveillance and target attacks for COIN/CT, and for those missions, a typical country will look at efficiency -- i.e., turboprops.

With turbofans, you're generally looking at achieving a higher cruising speed and probably a heavier payload, but you're not necessarily changing the current role. So, the Avenger and Global Hawk are still focused on strike and ISR, respectively.

Yes, we are seeing turbofans (still commercial grade though) on loyal wingman concepts, but we don't know if those drones will engage in dogfights with other fighters/drones. The goal right now for those is for them to 'support' their manned fighters in various ways, e.g., act as decoys, carry EW, and carry extra weapons for remote-firing.

Ace Combat 7-style 'fighter drones' are still a long way off.

WL-II might have been considered for its long endurance and payload, but if the MALE project is going smoothly under AZM, than i see no point in buying off the shelf WL-I . Unless they buy WL-I and call it their own MALE UAV I'd be disappointed .

Ohh, another Ace combat 7 fan, i often use AC7 technologies as a reference in convos. Especially the UAV swarm that is released from Mil Transport Plane. We (World), are still considering UCAV/UAVs as new because simple, we aren’t breaking the old stereotypes of ‘PILOT is necessary’ . Rather, it would take only one single country to change all this, will definitely take 2-3 decades but will definitely be fruitful. Just make it a NEED to have a UAV comparable to modern 4th/5th gen fighters and there you go. Innovation. But it would take very high budget and time to achieve this. France and BAE are looking into this. That’s why they are skipping 5 to directly 6th Gen.

Please be extremely careful with anything from the SCMP since they are most often referring to "unknown insiders close to the PLA or industry" but I would rate their credibility rather low or even nil. Especially Minnie Chan's reports like J-15 are using WS-10H operationally, the J-20 is powered by pre-serial WS-15s already and so on are completely fake and BS.

Gents could this UAV be the reason for the Indian frat on feb 27. They could have been thinking that a slow moving PAF UAV is coming to relieve itself of it's load :D
