The point is "What do we have right now?"
The natural reaction of seeing the Democrats being able to get away with what they did, being told that was fine and acceptable and even "good" and being forced to not question it.
Democrats basically assumed the US public will just keep taking it all on the chin (as they transitioned from pro-working class party to elitist scumbag party that GOP traditionally was), especially while abandoning their earlier voting groups (democrat policy was traditionally always to maximise the bargaining power of working class whites and then working class generally by being quite pro-union, anti-immigration, pro-tariff etc).
US public had enough of it and elected Trump to give the democrats a taste of their own medicine (but much more openly and direct rather than simply elect yet another mono-party PC candidate "assigned" by the shrinking overton window).
Almost everything about Trump speaks to this.....it just gets complained about (and presented to you in stacked way) because that gets laundered through the Democrat side (i.e the media). If its one thing Democrats hate, its someone beating them at their own (older) game (esp a former democrat who knows the in and out of the old school dem policies) that they abandoned (in favour of complete media control and more wall street/globalist funding). If you want an example of what I mean, look up Cesar Chavez (esp his immigration stance towards Mexicans even though he was a latino himself)...still held up as hero by the democrats....but if he were around today, he would be called the same kind of thing Trump is (racist, bigot, anti-immigrant etc etc).
Dems only want GOP to be controlled opposition like the Bush family...they dont want someone who does not fit in any clean mould of left/right but rather scraps across the board for what works. It reminds them too much of the older Democrat party, when they formed the voting bases they have now (but are leaving them). There is a deep psychology to US politics right now that few quite understand....but everyone can see it in how Trump absolutely drives the democrats (esp the progressive base) nutty and desperate.
To understand Trump, you have to first study the democrat party history and evolution (esp post cold war transition) deeply....especially what the forces are that came out in the Obama vs Tea Party conflict during his administration (leading to DNC bankruptcy, bailout by clinton donors in exchange for rigged primary and 1000 seat loss in the state legislatures in just few short years) and why. The basic reason is Democrat party got very greedy, they wanted it ALL (both poor and rich voting groups) and quickly...Republican elites were slow to respond (they have always been quite snobby)...but Trump is lifting them up by scruff of the neck and forcing them to look at the people (traditional working class bloc) left behind by the Democrat over-expansion. This has completely upset the democrat game plan.
