The elimination strategy can be simple.
Human decimated bison. We made Passenger pigeons extinct. No poison used. They were hunted just for some purpose. In Pakistan, the desert locust plague was uncontrollable till we found out that this creature can be sold in the market. And we decimated this thing in days. Humans are the most dangerous creatures God has created so far(IMO).

So my dear Australians, find some industrial use of these rodents instead of poisoning them or infecting them with some virus. People will kill them in days. Not a single will be spared.
