Australia, Vietnam boost national defence and diplomacy

VietNamNet Bridge – The first Vietnam-Australia National Defence and Diplomacy Strategic Dialogue was held in Canberra, Australia, on February 21.
At the meeting, co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defence Nguyen Chi Vinh and their Australian counterparts Gillian Bird and Peter Jennings, both sides expressed their delight at the development of the strategic partnership in all fields including diplomacy, national defence, economics, trade, and education-training. Two-way trade in 2011 reached US$4.6 billion, up 12 percent against the previous year.
They reaffirmed that Vietnam and Australia will cooperate closely with each other to raise their relations to a new level by continuing to implement the Vietnam-Australia Action Programme for 2010-2013, promoting exchanges of delegations at all levels, and signing agreements on cooperation and trade and investment promotion. They will also work closely together in international and regional forums such as Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the East Asia Summit (EAS), the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and the United Nations.
The Australian side said it attaches great importance to strengthening ties with Vietnam and commits to providing the Southeast Asian nation with more Official Development Assistance (ODA) and educational scholarships.
During the working session, both sides informed each other of their country’s policies and orientations, and discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern. They also praised joint efforts to promote cooperation and dialogue, and build trust for peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region.
They said they both support ASEAN in cementing the alliance and creating an ASEAN Community, in addition to backing ASEAN’s central role in building a regional structure for cooperation.
Both host and guest highly valued ASEAN’s important contributions to maintaining peace, security, cooperation and development in the region and reaffirmed they will cooperate closely to improve the effectiveness of regional cooperation mechanisms including the EAS, ARF, and the ASEAN Defence Ministerial Meeting Plus (ADMM+).
They also stressed the importance of regional cooperation in dealing with emerging challenges such as climate change, rising sea levels, and water resources security.
Regarding the East Sea issues, both sides emphasized the importance of ensuring peace, stability, security and maritime safety in the region, as well as settling disputes through peaceful negotiations in accordance with international laws, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNLOS 1982), and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
They also discussed measures to boost cooperation in disarmament, internet security, anti-terrorism, and the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

A great move for Vietnam and a bad news for China. Xi Jinping was just become a clown in political World for showing China friendly ambitious to the U.S. and its alliances.

Australia, Vietnam strengthen cooperation, that does not mean it against China. We care about the interests of the both countries rather than against any other country!

This is a diplomatic way of quoting the obvious .

However Indians too welcome this move .There is so much for both countries to gain from this cooperation . Its always good to diversify trade , economy and other activities . All ASEAN countries should emulate this .

Furthering a relationship isn't "doing" anything against China. You already ensured a response like this when you wrote the sentence.

I fail to see how this is bad news for China. All partnerships and ties aren't about China. China isn't the centre of attention.

Recent months Vietnam has been set up unilateral military ties with India, Australia, Philippines and whoever else. Was ASEAN, in which she is a part of, ever invited or informed? So if you say she is not against any country, what interests you are talking about?

It is "bilateral" ties but is not "unilaterally".

I quote from the paper:

"They also praised joint efforts to promote cooperation and dialogue, and build trust for peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region."

"They said they both support ASEAN in cementing the alliance and creating an ASEAN Community, in addition to backing ASEAN’s central role in building a regional structure for cooperation."

We also did the same thing with India, US, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Philippines, Thailand ...
VN, Singapore agree to strengthen defence ties -- Vietnam+ (VietnamPlus)

Well buddy, don't boast around whether it is true or not, otherwise your Northern neighbor is going to take some real unilateral preemptive actions.

Hehe, China army can't match with VN when fighting on land, and we begin mass producing anti-ship missile to shink all China war ship in SCS(east sea) too, so our Northern brother can do Nothing but sit and cry. We only have trouble when both US-China waging war with VN.

\Our anti-ship missile's range can be more than 300km , when all kinds of your Singapore weapon's range is well within the 300 km limit , so, we don't need to inform to you when you can do Nothing to harm us, right :coffee:

Dear Mr. NiceGuy,
I appreciate your patriotism, but I don't agree with you in your comment.
Nowaday Vietnam has friendly relations with Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and all other ASIAN members.
Most Vietnamese wishes to strengthen friendship and better understanding between ASIAN countries.
Fortunately, very few Vietnamese as your opinion.

Sincerely,

We don't make friend with invaders like China, Malaysia, Philippines. we only be friendwith them if they return all islands back to us.

Do you make friend with some one that rob your house ?? So, pls don't lie here, dude.

btw: Malaysia, Philippines are impossible to fight with us, bcz our weapon's range is longer than them, we can sink their ship, but they can do Nothing to harm our warship.
