We also currently have 3 x Air Defence Destroyers being built for $10-billion dollars!! That's insane. I have never understood the extremely high price tag on these defence equipment.

The French are setting up the entire infrastructure required this means transferring technologies to Australia. The french are spending 20 years to put everything into place that will not only allow Australia to build the subs but maintain them.

Along with rumors that they'll get insight/option to partner in the next generation French subs, depending on who you ask.

This is where BAe does not always do things strategically, had they a conventional submarine design we could have made a good stab at bagging this order from Australia and a few others.
