Jammu: Two soldiers of the Border Security Force (BSF) were killed on Wednesday and five were injured when the convoy they were traveling in was attacked by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

A terrorist was killed when the BSF fired back. Additional forces are now in the area.

The attack took place on the highway in Samruli, 10 km from Udhampur in Jammu. Security forces are concerned because this stretch of the highway has seen very few such attacks.

"An attack on this stretch of the NH after a very long time. Worrying development because area was militant free," tweeted former state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Background

Mostly Punjabi Taliban were focused on Kashmir and Afghanistan. Shaheen Bitani had personally shared these details with Project Pakistan after the meeting. He said that TTP commanders argued that since ANP had been weakened and the targets achieved in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa province, it was time the operation was extended to Punjab. Before TTP could launch punitive action against Punjabi Taliban, rift developed among its own ranks when Khan Said Sajna was removed from the leadership of South Waziristan. The issue was put in the back burner but few weeks later, six associates of Asmatullah Muavia were gunned down in Data Khel area by TTP that pushed Punjabi Taliban closer to the military.

Punjabi Taliban have been closely linked with Al-Qaeda which is the main source of its funding. These groups include Badar Mansoor group, Janudul Hafsa, Kashmiri Mujhidin, Harkatul Mujahidin-Harkatul Jihad al Islami.
