I personally like nvidia due to strong support of cuda and psychx from developers. btw 5970 is faster then other.

ATI 5970 is a little faster but why would you go for GTX 480 now? GTX 580 is here and it is much better, more performance and less heat.

So go for 2 580s, is budget allows, or else 2 5970s.
What are you gonna use them for?

Brute Forcing for Nokia SL3 Unlocking ...

any idea about price range & which motherboard will support this Card .

I don't think my current configuration will not work . have to build complete New PC .

Something like this is needed

1. GPU - ATI-RADEON-HD5970
2. POWER SUPPLY
3. MAINBOARD- 58 CHIPSET(FOR CORi-7)
4. CPU-CORi-7
AND OTHERS H/W WHICH I NOT INCLUDE HERE.

GRAPHICS CARD= HD5970:

# Dual GPUs with a total of 4.3 billion 40nm transistors
# TeraScale 2 Unified Processing Architecture
* 3200 Stream Processing Units
* 160 Texture Units
* 256 Z/Stencil ROP Units
* 64 Color ROP Units
# GDDR5 memory interface

Speeds & Feeds

* Engine clock speed: 725 MHz
* Processing power (single precision): 4.64 TeraFLOPS
* Processing power (double precision): 928 GigaFLOPS
* Polygon throughput: 1.45 billion polygons/sec
* Data fetch rate (32-bit): 464 billion fetches/sec
* Texel fill rate (bilinear filtered): 116 Gigatexels/sec
* Pixel fill rate: 46.4 Gigapixels/sec
* Anti-aliased pixel fill rate: 185.6 Gigasamples/sec
* Memory clock speed: 1.0 GHz

I would recommend Nvidia GTX 480. ATI 5970 is powerful no doubt but the crappy driver support has still not shown the full potential of the card. Most games are optimized for Nvidia chips too.

Not for games Bro ... Only needed in Brute forcing ....

12 hour needed for 1 code Calculation if i have this Card .

I have a Ati HD4200 and want to upgrade.

I'll put 200$ for an upgrade but i dont know much about them. I want to play some high-spec games.

Can someone reccomend me some names? Remember, under 200$

What kind of coding are we talking about here. Also having two 5970s it going to bottleneck that I7 pretty bad(after all you would be running 4GPUs at once). Not to mention i would recommend at least 850-900 watt PSU minimum possibly more if you decide on overclocking.

i just bought second hand Quadro FX 5600 in 200$ from hafeez centre lhr on ma way back home and its working aaalaaa, but it requires 750wt power supply...now i am looking for Quadro FX 4500:):):victory:

you could grab one of these

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100315L Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

Also why is your ram running at 666mhz as DDR3 ? That is a little odd. You might want to get some better sticks or set them to their optimal settings.

Well, if the program/code requires only GPU calculation then we can ignore the bottle-necking issue. Intense GPU load demands 5970 :)

Ok, buddy. Then don't go for GTX 480 at all. These complex calculations will use 100% of your GPU for hours at a stretch and GTX480s are notorious at overheating, and not to mention the huge power draw.

First find out what type of calculations are going to be performed. Which language is it coded in? Is it optimized for CUDA, or does it work better with Stream? Are the instructions single point floating integers, or double point floating integers?

On paper ATI cards are much more powerful for complex calculations since their peak output is somewhere over 2.5TFlops, but ATI uses a complex shader architecture, so its very tough to get high efficiency from these cards.

It all boils down to the software which you are going to be using. Ask the developer which method is the software optimized for, CUDA or Stream?

Then I will be able to guide you further.

When you have the data, you can compare the

I would go with ATI. I don't have it. But i would surely go with ATI.

Amir also consider the shader models, Open CL and OpenGL, PCI 2 or PCI 2.1, DX 10 or DX11 before purchasing.
