(MENAFN - Bangladesh Monitor) Guwahati: Assam will roll out the red carpet to welcome visitors from Bangladesh as tourism can play a pivotal role in further improving ties, Chandan Brahma, Minister for Tourism of the Indian state of Assam has said.

The minister was addressing a gathering on the occasion of Victory Day Festival, organised by the Bangladesh's Assistant High Commission office here on December 19.

Tour operators can come to the state to explore the possibilities and all arrangements will be made by the state government, Brahma said.

"People of Assam and Bangladesh have ties that date back to long ago and we are keen to increase people to people and cultural interaction between the duo," he added.

The minister said the proposed opening of the Chittagong port for trade and direct flights between Guwahati and Dhaka will also lead to increase in volume of trade from the North East (India) not only to the neighbouring country but also to other South East Asian countries.

Dr Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur, Bangladesh's Assistant High Commissioner in Guwahati also highlighted the possibilities of increased collaboration between Bangladesh and Assam in the areas of trade, commerce, education, medical tourism, art, literature and culture.

He said, for the first time, 10 publishing houses from Bangladesh are participating in the Guwahati Book Fair that began on December 22.

Dr Monsur offered his tributes to the freedom fighters along with extending deep gratitude to the supporters of the liberation war of Liberation, particularly those Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives to make Bangladesh free from the occupation forces.

What happened to all the hordes of illegal BD'shi immigrants?!

NE India and West Bengal will become a part of greater BD economy.

My belief is that this has been decided in secret between BD and India. India gets to develop these states and BD gets a much larger market for it's goods and services.

. . .
Assamese people must have figured out the contribution of Bangladeshi tourists on West Bengal's economy, now they want the same for their state.

They are not illegals. They are mostly Bengali tourist who spend there hard earned money on shopping, or as medical tourists. Spending hundreds of thousands of Takas to get treated in India. They are always welcome:enjoy:

Illegals will either be deported or shot while trying to cross. You can collect the bodies from border fences.

Bangladeshi tourists visit WB for medical reasons. But, has Assam that kind of facilities? I think tourists from BD will visit Assam for sightseeing mostly and business.

So? We welcome BD money and tourists. Legal activities are fine (illegals are not)....though it quite says something BD does all this while we have implanted a PM, BCL etc and shoot dead the level of BD ppl at the border that we do.

No such parallel exists anywhere in the world...but we welcome it all the same....given the liberation repayment is only about 0.1% done...and we get to calibrate and reset that eternally as we dictate.

Simply need to sit back and watch mr Genghiz babu....just like your bold prediction of alladin skycraper and US military intervention in Rakhine etc. etc. are ongoing exactly like you said!...I am sure the NRC supposed "non issue" will turn out just the same as those feewing-factz in the end!

What about our 60 million seeds inside Bharat Mata? Is it a payment for protecting her from delivering bastards one after another?

Good. Economic integration is always good - for economies of the North East as well as for B'desh tourists.

As you said, the liberation repayment is only 0.1% in 46 years. So, it will take 100%/(0.1%/46yrs) = 46,000 years to pay you back in total. So, instead of asking to pay back, why do not you ask @TopCat to use this money to build his dream 145-story Aladin Skyscraper in the marsh of Dhaka. The Complex will float on the marsh if a huge quantity of salt is mixed with its water like it is in the Dead Sea.
