I believe Ghadafi like all the leaders at the time 1960's could not be identified as a devoted person to religion but a nationalist and also had inclinations towards the east block. I think these types of nationalist leaders have several era in they life where they views change after getting used to absolute power. if at beginning he had nation and power both in mind in the order mentioned he would have power and nation if we want to be optimistic at the end of his reign in the named order. His views just like his era had dual personalities if not more. His type may have conflicting views and can not be judged by either.
Sadr was a threat an dgot eliminated by him and wouldn't matter if he was Shia or Sunni. Don't know the story behind Saddam but defenitely should have been a personal one more than an ideological one. Both type A personalities want to dominate Arab league and both did not have the capacities they hopep they have to dominate the region and its policies.
Ghaddafi, I would say he was more of a psycho that could be easily played with and bring out his good side for your goal just like what Iran did and west eventually did. But definitely I wouldn't say a good guy. Some say he changed Lybia while ruling it but think of all the wealth he dispensed and didn't go to the nation and think of how much Lybia would be developed if he was not a corrupt puppet of his own self and later the powers. He was ousted, because based on teh new theory of ME, ME should go into chaos for the desired change of the neo cons not that he was not submissive. A mad man like him which could be manipulated is the best that can happen to corrupt powers behind the scenes.
