ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday asked Director-General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Bashir Memon and Advocate General Pakistan (AGP) Syed Ashtar Ausaf Ali to apprise about the implementation of the top court’s verdict in the Asghar Khan case.
The three-judge bench, headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, rejected the review petition filed by two former military officers, Aslam Beg and Asad Durrani, against the SC’s earlier judgment.
In 2012, the apex court issued a landmark verdict on the October 1990 case, ordering legal proceedings against former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Gen (retd) Asad Durrani and former army chief Gen (retd) Aslam Baig.
Allegations pertained to bankrolling politicians to stop the then-ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) from winning the 1990 election. The case was filed 22 years ago by Air Marshal (Retd) Asghar Khan.
On January 6, funeral prayers for former air chief Khan were held at the Nur Khan Airbase Islamabad. The funeral was attended by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman General Zubair Mehmood Hayat, services chiefs, serving and former armed forces personnel and other senior officials, Express News reported.
Asghar Khan passed away on Friday at the age 97. He was laid to rest in his native village Nawanshehr in Abbottabad district.
