As Bengaluru mob strips Tanzanian woman, it's time to ask why bigotry is so ingrained in India

I Think the common Indian is majorly racist when it comes to Africans and throw in a woman he will happily sexually assault her in name of Justice. It happens with most Asians who come here to UK and today in all child grooming incidents here you can bet they will be Asians Muslims involved. I guess time to allow women in all temples and mosques in Asia so that the patriarchal mindset disappears. The Media must ruin the lives of all the culprits involved and the case trial must be fast tracked. One such incident is good enough to ruin all of Modi's diplomatic efforts.

get off your high horse, commie

those socialist pieces of shit, AAP, are no better.

http://zeenews.india.com/news/delhi...woman-forced-to-urinate-in-public_905018.html

firstly, the incident with the ugandan lady in delhi was a anti-human incident and i don't know if one of the main people accused of it, somnath bharti, has apologized to the ugandan lady and her friends and to the people of india in general... a apology was necessary by any standard... the other incident in which "aam aadmi party" was found tragically wanting was when farmer gajendra singh died on that tree in delhi in the periphery of a aap party rally attended by top aap leaders... gajendra singh had come to that rally thinking of it as a helpful bunch of people ( aap - a progressive movement largely ) and aap party leaders failed him then... yes, arvind kejriwal aplologized to the family of late gajendra singh and it was by all accounts a sincere apology, and another senior aap leader, ashutosh, broke into tears when posed with questions by the daughter of the late farmer.

but must be said that the aap movement is not a hardcore socialist movement so its cadre, who no doubt are sincere and want true progress for india, are still in the learning phase and their learning is not through the same self and group discussion/questions manner as a socialist who would join or support the broader socialist movement... but no doubt, the above incidents were great lessons to aap and would have been learned from diligently.

and why should you use "socialist pieces of shit" when socialism is the cure??

entire india has background elements of apathy and cruelty... let me speak of the bombay incident of may 2015[1] :
Just four days into her new job, Archana Pandya (22) was returning home when a vehicle ran over her at Goregaon; she was lying injured for 20 minutes in front of a police station before she was rushed to hospital and declared dead on arrival
PSI Kishori Mane of Vanrai police station added, “We reached the spot which is just outside the police station and took Pandya to hospital in an auto rickshaw. Nobody helped her and she was lying on the road for 15 to 20 minutes. An eyewitness informed the police station and ran away after that. We are taking help of the CCTV footage of the area. There is a CCTV installed near the spot, but we are not sure if it is in working condition. We don’t have a clue in this case. We have registered a hit-and-run case against unknown people and are investigating the matter further.”

and let me speak of the kerala incident of april 2015[2] :
In a shocking incident highlighting apathy to human life, two youths, who saw a woman fainting on the rail track on seeing an approaching train, failed to rush to her help, but instead took out their mobiles to capture the ghastly scene of the train ramming her.

The incident took place on Wednesday at Muttambalam in Kottayam.

Railway officials said the woman, Laila Thankachan (47) was crossing the track when she was hit by the Parasuram Express at around 3.30 pm
The railway gatekeeper, who was in his cabin, waved the red flag to alert the engine driver as the woman fainted and fell on the track, but in vain and the train stopped only after hitting her.

The gatekeeper said the two youths, who were near the woman, instead of helping her, were keen on capturing the impending ghastly tragedy on their mobiles.

but the same article goes on to speak of a heartening but tragic incident :
However, in another incident yesterday, a 64-year-old man sacrificed his life while trying to save his hearing-impaired neighbour from an approaching train at Kozhikode.

Abdurehman, who was returning from the mosque, noticed the 70-year-old Raman walking on the railway track and saw a train approaching. He rushed to pull him away from the track but both of them were hit and killed on the spot.
so the goal must be to promote empathy among the citizens and to declare that love for humanity is million times more needed than vulgar displays of nationalism in cinema halls or in the wagah border ceremony.

right, that finishes my contribution to this thread.

"Shinning india" is a fucked up place

As Bengaluru mob strips Tanzanian woman, it's time to ask why bigotry is so ingrained in India
The mob's action was solely driven by the woman's race. What does this say about India?

Bengaluru is India’s city of the twenty-first century. India’s Silicon Valley, it’s often called, drawing upon our penchant for American parallels. Well, here’s another American parallel: racism. On Sunday, a mob assaulted, stripped and paraded a 21-year-old Tanzanian student, later on setting fire to her car as well. Her only fault was that she was passing through the same neighbourhood where, an hour before, a Sudanese student had run over and killed a resident. The enraged mob simply picked on the Tanzanian woman because she was of the same race as the Sudanese driver.

How did the police react? The Deccan Chroniclereportedthat when the woman approached the police station to register a complaint, she was turned away. Come back when you have the name of the driver, she was told. Later on, a local politician, BS Shankar, even went so far as to justify the violence.

Bosco Kaweesi, Legal Adviser to the All African Students Union in Bengaluru said, in exasperation, “She’s Tanzanian, the man who caused the accident comes from Sudan, they didn’t even know each other."

Pervasive feature

Collective mob justice is a pervasive feature of Indian society. Usually it’s based on religion or caste but, in this case, the identity picked up was race, a feature getting increasingly common as significant numbers of Africans move to India for work or education.

In 2013, Nigerians suffered racist attacks across Goa, even as state Minister Dayanand Mandrekarcalledthem a cancer. So severe was that episode that Nigerian diplomats warned of a backlash back in Nigeria against Indians working there. In 2014, a mobassaultedtwo Africans at a Metro station in Delhi. The incident, captured on camera, depicted a frightening picture of racism, as the mob tried to get at the two men cowering, ironically, inside a police booth. Earlier in Delhi, a state minister himselfledvigilante justice against the city’s African residents.

Bigotry based on skin colour has a chequered past in India. At one level, Indians are obviously racist given how much value we attach to light skin, even propping up a huge cosmetics industry to make Indians fairer – an entire nation of Micheal Jacksons. Language and pop culture reflect that as well. One of Bollywood’s evergreen songstellsof howevena “dark-skinned man” can be a good person. Languages like Hindi and Punjabi have their own N-word:habshi.

India’s African elite

Of course, India also does not have the debilitating legacy of western slavery based on race (it was based on caste instead). Black Africans have been a part of India’s elite in centuries past. In the medieval Deccan, for example, people of African-origin were highly-prized as ace sailors and mounted warriors. In the 17th century, the Abyssinian Malik Ambar rose to become the regent of the Ahmadnagar Sulatanate. His army consisted of Marathas, including Maloji, grandfather of Shivaji, and Ambar’s methods of guerrilla warfare came to dominate the Deccan. In 1672, as the Aurangzeb ordered a naval siege on British Bombay, the Mughal fleet was commandeered by a man of African-origin.

Descendants of those Africans who came to India, now make up the Siddi community, also derogatorily called Habshis. After their heyday in medieval India, they now face discrimination for being dark-skinned.

People who have tried to bring attention to India’s frightening culture of majoritarian intolerance over the past year have been shouted down, vilified and mocked. But pushing problems under the carpet usually makes things worse. India has multiple faultlines of bigotry already. To add race to that is an alarming prospect.

India is shitty place to drive. If you happen to accidentally ram your car against anybody, even if it's not your fault then I suggest you run away from the spot, else mob's gonna rip you apart. This is why I hate driving in India. She just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. My sympathies with her. Indians are prone to road rage. Our chaotic neighbourhood is to be blamed. We need societal revolution.

Couple of secular folks arrested in this incident hence secular brigades are on "Silent Fart" mode.

I can't imagine. A mob is made of all kind of people of all ages and profession. How do they manage striping a woman? This kind of thing is unthinkable in my country though we are neighbors.

.
'Uncivilized' is the word you're looking for. Africans don't get stripped and have their cars burnt for being Africans in the West.
Not defending anyone.

But yeah in the West the police may shoot someone for being... well a bit darker than the rest. :D

$hit happens.

It is a case of mistaken identity. The attack took place when the woman and three other Tanzanian students were travelling in a car near a spot where a Sudanese driver had run over a woman. The mob mistook these Tanzanians for the Sudanese. Moreover ktaka home min says she was not stripped. During the scuffle her top was torn off

First of all you are not Indian. And if your being attacked for mistooking as Indian and you still are defending them, just tells you about your inferiority complex. And speak for yourself, maybe your family is racist. This mob mentality is bad in India i agree on that. But this attack is far away from racism. She was mistook as a Sudanese who killed someone by accident. In Australia, Britain and America you don't even need a reason to kill, thats called racism. Heck America, Australia and Britain don't even allow a Dalit to get a visa or citizenship, thats called racism.
