It seems like having a love marriage rather than an arranged marriage is a taboo in Pakistani culture; at least that's how I feel like after talking to my parents who became so emotional when I said I don't want an arranged marriage.

I just wanted to see what other people here think about this. Would you get an arranged marriage or love marriage? If you got love marriage, were your parents happy with it?

Thankfully, I'm not planning on getting married any time soon. I want to finish my PhD first. I don't plan on marrying until I find the right person.

Definitely marry someone you fall in love with! Hopefully your parents won't be too unhappy. And even if they are, it's your life, you'll have to live with the person you marry for the rest of your life (or get divorced). Seriously, look out for yourself first.

Love, but go out with her for like 10 years and get a prenuptial agreement when you do get married....

well whether its arrange marriage or love marriage

you must know your "to-be-wife" very well and you must make sure that she shares at least some common habits as yours...

or willing to compromise with you at hard times

For some peoples arrange marriage works perfectly and for some peoples love marriage is great

For me... I would be doing arrange marriage because the love has cost me too much already...
but its not blind-arrange marriage.... in my case

How about no marriage? Nowhere near as many complications in life, far less yelling and fighting, etc. Live in peace.

Ishq hota nahi sabhi k lea, so for them arrange marriage...

it always better to know the person ure gonna marry, so love (being in a relation for certain period) will give an idea how one's life would be in future.

BUT in arrange marriage the guy enjoys dominance over his bride, DOWRY is another reason for many men to get arrange married.

for me love marriage is always better...(but going on a honeymoon with a new partner is always romantic and mesmerizing ( ahhh! cant explain it)

what's wrong with love marriage anyhow?

Anyone wanna point out its downsides?

Well, personally I am in my second "love" marriage. My first love marriage lasted 17 years and my present, second, love marriage is now 25 years old. I think an arranged marriage would work if the "arrangers" have a good marriage themselves. So, if my parents had a good marriage, which mine did, then I might trust them to arrange a marriage for me. BUT, IF my parents were really screwed up! Why would I let them screw up my marriage too? So, I think arranged marriages require that the parties doing the arranging, i.e. both sets of parents, are qualified. How do you know if they are qualified? Well, NO one may be qualified to choose two people for marriage, but, at least, they should both have made a good thing of their marriage to even be, possibly, qualified to choose for you. Generally love marriage doesn't have any down side, but there can be some issues regarding compatibility with their in-laws.
