ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army’s Corps Commanders are meeting on Friday to discuss internal security of the country with particular reference to halting of its surgical strikes against Taliban hideouts in the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan, credible sources told Dawn.com on Thursday.

They said that Army Chief General Raheel Sharif would take the commanders into confidence about the decisions taken by the country’s civil-military leadership earlier this week at the Prime Minister House.

According to an ISPR press release however, Friday’s meeting is a “routine monthly Corps Commanders Conference.”

“A routine monthly Corps Commanders Conference will be held at General Headquarters here on Friday,” said the military presser issued in Rawalpindi.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif will chair the conference, it added without giving any further details of the conference.

The all important Corps Commanders meeting is being called at a time when the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to continue with the peace process it started with Pakistani Taliban militants last month.

Earlier today, the government decided to form a new ‘powerful’ committee to mediate peace talks with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), DawnNews quoted sources as saying.

Sources added that the committee, which is expected to be formed in the next two days, will include representatives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the Army, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and other stakeholders. The committee will also receive decision-making powers, sources said.

On Tuesday, the government decided to resume peace dialogue with the outlawed group which was suspended last month after the TTP Mohmand claimed to have killed 23 detained Frontier Corps personnel.

The two committees had met twice prior to the suspension of the dialogue process.

The process appeared to gain new life over the weekend when the Pakistani Taliban declared a one-month ceasefire and the government responded by saying it would halt air strikes against militant hideouts in the tribal areas.

Sources told Dawn.com that situation in North Waziristan, with particular reference to key targets achieved in the recent air strikes, is also likely to be reviewed in the meeting.

Top level Pak-US military dialogue held in the US capital Washington last week would also come under discussion by the military commanders.

They should consider of throwing PML(N) government into the trash bin, imposing an emergency, and going about a full-scale ruthless operation against each and every anti-Pakistan element whether it is TTP(alias JI/JUI) or the ones who are supporting them.

Imran Khan must have cast a spell on military top brass too. Blame Imran Khan and PTI for this too.

I guess top brass of military has also become pro-Taliban...!! Army & Nawaz & Ch.Nisar appears to be listening to IK. MQM's solidarity march appears to be having no effect on Army.

..its just they are delaying thier actions....
Whatever it is, blame Imran Khan for this delay too. I'll be waiting for the operation "بڑهك برگيڈ" keeps boasting about; after the "delay" is over. They just put civilian politicians on the front; in the back-drop it's Army who's making all such decisions. Army know they're simply NOT capable of another panga (operation) period..... Besides, criminals are sitting in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, already. The situation we're in, an operation in deserted FATA will NOT do any benefit. What we need is improved intelligence work. ISI, IB etc have to come into play & dig up network of foreign sponsored criminals that have already spread well through out country. Thanks to Mushy-The-Traitor.

But since it's a habit of "مولا جٹ" of "بڑهك برگيڈ" so keep up with that; blame IK for the delay. IK must have played with the thoughts of Army top brass and of Nawaz & of Ch.Nisar. They must be mental-slaves to IK.

Just yesterday, US general issued a statement threatening Pakistan Military's top brass.
He said Al-CIAdah is still operative in FATA, & in very next breath he talked of Kashmir conflict bearing bad results for the region.

Do you know what US general was alluding to??? Tacitly, he asked Pak Army Top Brass to bend over or else they will ignite fire on both the Eastern & Western borders of Pakistan. And there you go, your Army Chief bent over & dropped his pants before Dajjal.

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the corps commanders, chaired by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, on Friday decided that airstrikes on militant hideouts would continue in the event of future attacks on military installations, DawnNews quoted sources as saying.

The meeting was briefed on goals achieved by surgical strikes against militant hideouts in North Waziristan. It also expressed satisfaction over successful airstrikes on the hideouts in retaliation to a spate of deadly terrorist attacks in the country.

According to military sources, the meeting also focused on the country’s internal security issues as well as on professional matters relating to the military.

The meeting is also scheduled to discuss the selection of military representatives for negotiations with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), sources added.

Gen Sharif is also expected to take the corps commanders into confidence over his visit to the United Arab Emirates.

Today’s meeting has been called at a time when the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to continue with peace process that it started with Pakistani Taliban militants last month.
