Srinagar: Army on Tuesday morning raided and ransacked the residence of a religious scholar in south Kashmir’s Sallar area, sources said. Army personnel ransacked even the personal library of the scholar without any reason.
Preacher at Jamia Masjid Srigufwara Anantnag, and a noted columnist, Moulana Altaf Hussain Nadvi, told Kashmir Reader that army soldiers raided his residence at Sallar Bijbehara early today and started ransacking without asking anything.
“They (army soldiers) damaged my households and even religious books of my library,” Nadvi said. He added that army personnel damaged everything in the house and even used abusive language.
When contacted Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Srigufwara, Peerzada Atiq, confirmed to Kashmir Reader that army has raided and ransacked the house of Nadvi. However the SHO said that army has conducted raids in many residences in the area.
“I am on spot and Nadvi’s house and his library has been ransacked,” Atiq said. He however did not divulge the reasons of the raid.
When contacted defence PRO in Srinagar, Col Rajesh Kalia categorically refuted the allegations of ransacking. “Our soldiers simply conducted searches in the house,” Col said adding “the allegations of ransacking are totally false and misleading”.
Col Rajesh also shared some photographs with Kashmir Reader trying to prove that soldiers did not ransack or damage the property.
