Army, ISI being maligned to weaken Pakistan

* Former president says New York Times journalist’s book ‘distorted and rubbish’

Daily Times Monitor

LAHORE: There is a global conspiracy to malign the armed forces and the Inter-Services Intelligence in an attempt to weaken Pakistan, General (r) Pervez Musharraf said on Monday.

“The allegations being levelled against the armed forces and the ISI will lead to defeat in the war on terror,” he told reporters. He also slated New York Times journalist David Sanger for statements in his book, ‘The Inheritance: The World Obama Confronts and the Challenges to American Power’.

Distorted facts: “I don’t know what the writer was trying to prove but what he has written is far from fact and is completely distorted and rubbish.” He denied allegations regarding his “double game” of supporting the Taliban while receiving US funding.

The former president also clarified he had never said the security of Benazir Bhutto was dependent on her relations with him.

Weaken Pakistan !

The army has not been able to perform in Swat.. to a point that GOP had to capitulate to the demands of an orgnisation that has hitherto been waging war against the state.

The ISI too has not played a part to contain internal threats to the nation.

How much weaker can a state get ? One cannot help but get the impression that the import of whats happening / happened has not been realised.

To go back to the old ways may make seem ok in the short term but shall make things worse.

There is nothing wrong with how the army has performed in Swat. There are many factors that needs to be kept in mind when raising fingers.
People of that area themselves were willing for the implementation of sharia law, GOP has to keep that in mind, as for the army they are following orders.

.
also each gov in last 20 yrs had promised to bring shariah law in that region but it never got implemented. they had to do it one day. would have been better if this promise was kept. army could not have done much in swat anyways considering the large population of that area. battles in bajur and tribal areas have been of some success only bec locals turned against talibans. here the movement had the backing of local ppl and army cant go around killin everyone
if some ppl wanna call it defeat, i would say it was worth loosing provided peace prevails
