1) If India is too poor to afford a war, then howcome it's spending billions on arms each year? Why not alleviate some of the spending on weaponry and strive for more world peace?

Well If by poor, you mean we cant afford a long and prtacted war in another country.
Then yes. we cant. And i am sorry that you have to use such negative language.
If you want to see India As poor than that's your prerogative. But i though you were the one who said dont underestimate others.
and its interesting to know that whilst i presented you with a number of reasons as to why India cant go to Afghanistan, You only remember the fact that India doesn't have the money to do so.

Buying weapons is far cheaper then Using them.
If you want to know how expensive it is to Operate troops in Afghanistan that why dont you do a little research.

India only spends 2.5% of it s GDP on weapons.
Arms purchases are over many years and Even though the overall expense is huge, they are paid for over the course of many.

Why doesn't Pakistan or China Cut back on weapons as well.

Well the thing is, China is arming itself at the same time operating in Somalia. Pakistan is arming itself all the while defeating terrorists in the Swat Valley. There, 2 examples of arming WHILST mobilizing a nation's military. Why can't India devote a few hundred troops to the cause? Also, can you please elaborate on the -ve language I used in my last post? Well you say India is Poor, even though we are one of the 20th richest in the world. It just seemed to me like a cheap shot when i said we can't afford a war.

Well you say China is gearing for war in Somalia, i dont know anything about this but well China is the 3rd largest economy with about 2 trillion dollars worth of reserves .
china can afford a war abroad far away from its homeland if ti wants.

NOTE THE IF, as in IF you say India is too poor for... So on, so forth.

Secondly, I never said China was fighting a war in Somalia, I meant peacekeeping, something India's economy can DEFINITELY withstand, just a matter of willingness.

India is the third largest contributor of troops to United Nations Peacekeeping missions.

We do our part when we can but lets be realistic India has many problems at home, fixing them should be the top concern

India, Pakistan both are biggest contributors to UN peace keeping mission but that is not Free-of-Charge.

we both know we are getting big bucks for that.

So Its not doing our part without any benefit.
