LAHORE: The Chairman of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association, Mr S.M. Tanveer, said on Sunday that the association had decided to ‘voluntarily’ close down the textile industry because of the losses it had been suffering.

“An emergency meeting of Aptma’s general body has deliberated on the adverse circumstances and found it unfeasible to incur losses by operating mills partially,” Mr Tanveer said in a statement.

According to the Aptma chairman, the cost of doing business in the textile sector has gone through the roof and the burden of incidental taxes, provincial cess, system inefficiencies and the punitive withholding tax regime have added fuel to the fire.

The Aptma chairman said the owners of mills in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Karachi had decided to close down operations and lay off millions of workers because they had nothing to offer their international buyers against the regional competitors.

Textile has no future in Pakistan. Whole asia is specialising in Texiles and soon there will be no room left for Pakistan on global stage. Chian, India, Bangadesh, Vietnam, are all better at textiles than Pakistan due to better economic and social systems. Other east asian countries will follow suit and kick out inefficient countries like Pakistan altogether out of the market. These east asian countries have advantage in industry. They will out perform countries like Pakistan in every industrial sector. Pakistan can only do what their industry has not taken up. But unfortunately for Pakistan they have taken up textiles now and Pakistan will have to leave it.

Seriously, I was once a die hard fan of IK but recent events and everything has lead me to this conclusion, whatever He is doing is for his own personal ego He is not going to bring any change which he use to mention, anyhow N league is way better than IK, atleast is some departments and economy is the one they are good at it and which is the most important one.

NOT to forget Zardari was supposed to be dragged on the streets but instead SS went to BEG for forgiveness

I expect PAKISTANIS not to forget the amount of corruption done BY BOTH ZARDARI and SHARIFF in the repeated cycles!

I expect Pakistanis to pressurize NS to open Swiss case and get to it!

I expect reforms!

As for breaks and value of rupee abhi bhi US$1 is nt 1 PKR so if that happens in the next 6 mths then you could say it was supposed to happen 6 mths ago and IK stopped it!

1) You personally knew and cant recover hence lets throw the blame on IK? wow!

2) Who has jailed SS for WANTING to make helipads everywhere? And what about jailing them for giving expensive gifts to Army wife? I mean they declare they are poor but they have money for gifts or is that out tax money?

3) Why is NS soo poor he has to live in mom's home who is too rich to pay tax?

Aptma is wrong in this matter , Industries power cuts are reduced , Power FPA is given in recent bills, interest rates are lowest in the history . Textile mills profitability has reduced but it has other factors like , lower cotton prices , lower demand from china and other markets .It is just a business cycle as textile business is never smooth in a straight line . Now companies are earning but less and some to break even . But they must wait for the cycle to reverse .
