ISLAMABAD: The federal health ministry has told the apex court that coronavirus infections in Pakistan may rise to 50,000 by April 25 – a projection based on the pandemic’s trends in other countries.

The Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination has submitted a report to the Supreme Court five-judge larger bench, which is hearing a petition filed against March 20 order of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to release under trial prisoners (UTPs).

According to the report, the tally of coronavirus infections may top 50,000 by April 25. Some 2,392 of these infections might be in critical condition; 7,024 in severe condition and 41,482 facing mild infection.



It said the mild cases require care at home and at isolation centres. In severe cases, hospitalization is required and intensive care is mandatory for treating critical cases.

However, the report noted that projections may change as they are based on trends in other countries. “They should only be taken as an indicator and not for any disclosure as they may create public unrest.”

The report said after 35 days, number of the confirmed cases in Pakistan is very low as compared to European and Iran. It emphasized that there is need to ensure implementation of burial protocols and training for burial workers and religious leaders.

The report also highlighted the measures taken to control spread of coronavirus and making the testing system more efficient. The government is monitoring the situation 24/7, it said.

The Federal Ministry of Interior in its report said 13,494 persons have arrived in Pakistan since January 1 after screening by concerned authorities. The Pakistan Coast Guards has sealed all the jetties to control movements from the sea.

All arrivals at the airports, sea ports and land ports are being managed in coordination with relevant stakeholders. Eastern and western borders of the country have been sealed till the situation stabilizes.

The Punjab government in its report stated that a Corona Crisis Management Cell has been established to monitor the situation. It said Section 144 has been imposed in the province. More than 1,500 pilgrims who came from Iran, have been quarantined in three cities – Faisalabad, Multan and DG Khan.

The report said policy guideline for shifting of prisoners from high density confinement to lower density confinement is being implemented. The sole suspected infection has been quarantined/ isolated and later shifted to Mayo Hospital Lahore. ‘

The Lahore Camp Jail where this case was detected has been isolated and sealed and prisoners are being shifted to other jails. It said so far, 609 under trial prisoners have been shifted to Hafizabad District Jail and 200 under trial prisoners have been shifted to Lodhran Jail.

Thousands of persons who returned from abroad have been traced out for screening. The Punjab government has allocated a package of Rs44 billion to deal with the situation that emerged after coronavirus, the report added.

That's very encouraging but it's so sad to see that some people on both sides of the border are using these statistics as di*k measuring contest. Yesterday Indians were happy with the rise in infections on Pakistani side & comparing it to their own. Today we are better than them so some in here will use the graph to look down on neighbors. They don't realise that COVID isn't friend of anyone. If 10 people gets infected there. Get ready for atleast 5 cases on this side too. It's a multi polar world. A global village.

Coronavirus is not going to end in Pakistan India Bangladesh Saudia Iran USA Russia China or the world. There is a reason behind it and the reason is this. No matter how much you lockdown or do social distancing once Pakistan is clear from pandemic the virus will continue to exist somewhere else and will make its way back to population. It is a global pandemic and world is not working together to end it but everyone is busy in its unilateral effort to make some strategic gain from it. Until or unless world works together and make sure this virus ends in every corner or there is a vaccine for it in my prediction it will take 1 year for this pandemic to end. There will always be a threat of virus returning and respreading. My words might be hard but if virus came once it will come again. We need a single policy for whole humanity to end this virus. When virus was only in China every one watched it and commented it is a Chinese problem now China is relatively calm and it is rest of the world's problem. Why do you think China is shipping supplies around the world? Cause China has realized that to be secure and have an economy you need to end the virus in the whole world. If virus makes an unannounced comeback through another channel it will as deadly as it was for the first time.

Being a India you cannot be happy that virus is in Pakistan cause it will come for India as well and vice versa.

To have every thing restart you need the end of virus around the world not just one Country.

My suggestion is people need to stop looking at the curve of their countries and they need to look at the curve of the world. Why cause this virus don't know you are Muslim Hindu sikh Christian jew or atheist. The virus only knows you are human and it wants to kill you for being human.

This is the only way to stop coronavirus. There is no other way. There is no other option.

We do not know how deep these countries are into the pandemic time scale. You can predict nothing from these yet. About 8 weeks down the line will give a better indicator of where things are and where they are heading

I do not think that we can relax this early.

The moment we relax, the rate will shoot up like anything.

However, the deaths will be much less in shaa Allah in shaa Allah in shaa Allah as DRAP has given permission to use plasma of recovered people on critical people. If by Allah's help this procedure gets successful, a large number of deaths can be avoided.

I watched Dr. Tahir Shamsi's interview yesterday.. he was very very hopeful.

I do not wish death for anyone.. including Indians.. however, if an Indian (or anyone else) has wrongfully killed a Kashmiri or a Muslim, or any other human, I pray that he dies of corona with a similar pain as he/ she inflicted on other(s).
