What's new

Apple looking to India to move its production out of China.

Pakistan should look into this.
Imran khan has good relations with Bill Gates. We can offer land on economic zones or any other prime land free.
And with little charm diplomacy we can work this in our favour.
wtf bill gates got to do with apple manufacturing???
And apple already manufactures iphones in INDIA ,there is no big deal if new line is added.

.
India is currently the world's second largest phone manufacturer . Samsung and almost all major Chinese companies Xiaomi, Oppo Vivo etc manufacture in India. You think there's some superior technology inside apple phones that makes them hard to manufacture as compared to other phones? Apple phones are just like any other phone in the price range. You don't need any major expertise or technology to manufacture an iphone. Of course incompetent countries like Pakistan might not be able to manufacture them, but a country with a successful space program and phone, auto industry like India surely can.

That is perhaps one of the reasons, but costs to manufacture in China are also rising. China is almost an upper middle income country. Wages there are now about 3 times that of India or Vietnam.
So.... can u name an Indian branded smartphone since its so easy to make one?

Just some dumb reporting by fox as usual.

In the mean time clown wants to bring back manufacturing jobs to usa. lol

there is a difference between assembler and manufacturer :) . you should learn that.

India has a long way to go the infrastructure is falling apart in India people are still defecating in the open etc.

Of course, we are only in 2000 - 2500 USD region for per capita (nominal) GDP. There is a very long way to go, the journey has just really started...but there are promising signs more than before.

Does India assemble the parts or manufactures them ?
Is it done by Indians only or with some foreign supervisor and engineer assistance ?

Pakistan is Chinese biggest ally. No western business can move from China to Pakistan. Furthermore china will be angry to see Pakistan lure their factories out. As a ally you are not even supposed to do that. Imran khan knows this and that is why he is rightly sitting quietly, watching Turkish webseries on his Chinese led TV.

On other hand India is enemy of china and any western business will prefer the land which is a Chinese enemy. Besides billions of educated youngster's and cheap labours, plus land made available by our govt, makes it perfect to shift to India.

And by the way Apple is already manufacturing in India. Now news is about expanding Indian base. Now that is not so difftict is it ?

Micromax, Karbonn, Lava. These are a few of the companies. Plenty of them there.

Xiaomi manufactures about 70% of the components required for a phone in India(This is for the phones sold in India). That certainly counts as manufacturing, not just assembly.

About 60-70% of the components are manufactured in India, rest are imported. Don't know about supervisor or engineering assistance.

Sirjee how are good relations with Bill Gates going to affect Apple's decision? You do know he is the founder of Microsoft, not Apple ?

Must have touched a lot of nerves.
Being alley doesn't usually mean you can't attract the company already moving out of your friends country. One thing we all learn from China is how to being non baised in their trade relations. No matter how big the conflict it, they do trade.
Well don't let me go there what the Chinese made for you dude. See your trade balance.

billgate cannot be trusted as he is involved in spread of pandemic and will promote slavery and disease here

india cannot make high quality electronics and it is better for china as apple quality will decrease if produced in india just like india damage reputation of boeing due to faulty software, china should ban apple products sale in china and replace it with domestic brands like huawei
For Gods sake , does we also have to have that debate here

Yes, Manufacture always come to the country with a lot of their costumers. Like Xiaomi, they build a manufacture plant in India because India is their important target market. So if Apple aims for India market, then they'll do it, sooner or later. Depend on India readiness on preparing for the infrastructure.

But Apple definitely won't leave China, simply because they target China market too.

Indian smartphone maker Lava plans to shift production to India

  • The move follows the government’s production linked incentive scheme for mobile manufacturers in the country
  • Lava had also benefited from the recent US-China trade war, gaining a sudden influx of business last year

NEW DELHI: Indian smartphone manufacturer Lava has said it will shift the production base of all of its phones meant for exports to India from China. The company will also shift its design centre to the country, according to a report in Business Standard newspapers.

The move is thanks to the government’s new production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for mobile manufacturers in the country. Industry executives say that it gives manufacturers here a 6% cost advantage, something they didn’t have earlier. According to the company, the “cost disadvantage" Lava had as compared to China is eliminated by the PLI scheme.

“We have been eagerly looking forward to an opportunity to shift our entire mobile R&D, design and manufacturing from China to India. With the production linked incentives, our manufacturing disabilities for the world market would largely be met hence we plan to make this shift," said Hari Om Rai, chairman and managing director of Lava.

Since the proliferation of Chinese smartphones in the Indian market, companies like Lava, Micromax, Karbonn, among others, had found themselves at a disadvantage. However, Lava is among the few Indian players who had been able to move into other countries and sell phones there. The company also moved most of its business towards the manufacturing and design side of things.

The company had also benefited from the recent US-China trade war, gaining a sudden influx of business last year. Reports suggest that US telcos AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint had handed orders worth approximately ₹2,500 crore to companies like Lava and Micromax, thanks to rising tensions between the two countries.

India has often been cited as a viable alternative to China, though countries like Vietnam remain in contention too. At the moment, companies bring semi knocked down (SKD) units into the country and assemble them here, whereas companies are now expected to move towards component manufacturing here, so that completely knocked down (CKD) units can be brought into India.

Recent reports also suggest that iPhone giant Apple is planning to move much of its manufacturing to India in the next five years. The company is expected to export smartphones up to $40 billion from the country, after moving about a fifth of its production here.

If so, that will signal the end of apple as we know.
The latest technological innovation will not come from silicon valley in future,it will be in Shenzhen.
Without chinese manufacturing, apple's production cost will increase, profit will decrease, lose technological edge and quality will drop and the chinese brands will totally dominate in such a scenario.
And apple's profit depends on china, without China, apple is a joke.
Watch ,US's biggest firm drop in value like a rock once china discards it.

Not that India even has the stock of skilled engineers and infrastructure needed for such massive undertaking, india can't even assemble enough cellphones for India
