Apple CEO Tim Cook on "low manufacturing wage" in China

Why do you think that is the only chip plant in the US?

Then what?

You guys cannot even make 5nm chips adequately with the babysitting from the TSMC engineers.

In contrast, we manage to break through the 5nm chips even with 100% sanction from the entire western world.

Do you see the difference? We are the winning generation, and your grandparents' success represents their own, not yours.

It sucks that you guys are destined to be the losing generation, but that's life, you gotta live with it.

we have a facility that made 2nm...and where is yours?

IBM scientists develop next-generation 2nm chips at Albany Nanotech complex

The future of computer chips is being built in Albany

In the last few years, researchers from IBM’s Albany lab have hit a string of breakthroughs. In 2015, they unveiled the world’s first 7 nanometer (nm) transistor at a time when the state of the art was 14 nm. They also coined the term “nanosheet” and unveiled this new device architecture to help continue shrinking the size of transistors. The 5 nm transistor followed, and by 2021, IBM unveiled the world’s first 2nm transistor.

Notice how it was the US that made the world's first 2nm..not China.

A research from the lab, it might require until year 2030 to mass produce it.

Heck, we even got the superior photonic chips in store.

Chinese work hard.

Chinese government allows people to work 12 -16 hours a day.

This is not possible in other countries.

At the same time, they push young people to study harder and harder.

The mentality to push themselves forward, to improve their skills, to produce more, to increase efficiency more, to do better, etc... that is most countries in the world don't have.

China is still fine.

Look Japan, their street is very clean and tidy, but that what makes people love about Japan.

I wonder why Intel and AMD don't work together with IBM.

Especially Intel, it is still struggling to produce processors with smaller transistors.

But at least their 'big' chip is still able to beat out AMD 4nm processors.

LOL! Typical sour grape Chinese.
Not only are they fabricating them there but also licensing it to Japan who is building a fab.

Japanese foundry startup also shipping engineers off to US to study IBM chip tech

Data says wage rise in China is the best in past 3 decades. Not even close.

That is quite surprising to know that Vietnam worker salary is higher than those in Malaysia and Thailand.

But people are more interested to build factory in Vietnam rather than in Malaysia and Thailand.

When it comes to the way that the Chinese work , it is impossible for an Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, or Sri Lankan to work, because it is not part of our DNA. One of the most significant contributions of Chinese culture lies in the language itself, a language that enables a 3 dimensional view of everything. Learn chinese is key for success in future.

Yes, I read about it.

East Asian people store more fat than other races, that contribute a lot to their's stamina.

East Asian people are able to work and study longer.

East Asian is more feminine, and we know that women is able to work much longer than men.

The most visible example is nurturing children from early in the morning down to sleep time at night, that is 12-16 hours a day.

Not to mention other jobs like cooking, cleaning the house, etc.

I don’t know why this long discussion. 5y from now the new Apple CEO will move the rest of Apple manufacturing to Vietnam and India. Case closed.
May your wish come true that is if he ever wants to.

That’s the market. Chinese consumers will gradually buy less and less iPhones at some point it makes no sense to have Apple manufacturing in China. Same for lots other western products. See Samsung smartphone market share in China. That’s close to 0. Now Vietnam makes 60 percent of all global Samsung phones.

.
It is politically incorrect to say that East Asian has the highest discipline to pull of low defects at lowest possible lead time (this is fact). US wanted to give business to Hindus. Hindus are so irresponsible and selfish that they cant make it.

You cant produce Iphone in India even though wage level is just 20% of China when defect rate is 50%.

Yup.

That is why Apple is asking East Asian companies to open factory in India rather than just directly to Indian companies.

What tells you China does not have equivalent talents as Cupertino does?

I have been to weekend swap meets in China where you can find parts and software to assemble an iPhone look-alike (Chinese version) in less than half-an-hour.

Does that happen without engineering talent ??

The country of your birth, India, can't even produce basic cellphone parts in-country (screens, circuit boards, SMD components, batteries) and has to import them from China and assemble local phones.

You think that happens without talent ??

The whole esoteric audio market is filled with Chinese products nowadays, priced a fraction of US and EU counterparts. I bought some myself (high-spec Valve amps), they are spectacular for the price.

Chinese precision optics (microscopes, telescopes, binoculars, consumer lenses) are sold all over the globe and sell at almost the same price as their Japanese equivalents. Out of all my camera lenses (some priced around $1000) half are Chinese (LAOWA, VILTROX). They work and look great - some are better performers than Japanese products at half the cost.

A talentless country can produce those ??

Take a lesson from Tim Cook - just give up this sad habit of bad-mouthing China.

China doesn't have talents as Cupertino does because of culture.

Chinese culture is still lower than USA's, because USA is developed and wealthy longer than China.

Despite China development is progressing fast, but that is physical, to change people mentality it takes time.

China needs a new generation of young people who exposed with modernity to raising the culture one level above.

Then it will take another generation to produce a futuristic minded generation, to able to have vision like Cupertino workers, to imagine and create something that the world has never seen before.

India has a very strict or people can say a nationalist policy it asks Apple to make iPhones in India to sell to India. Otherwise Apple will face punitive tariffs then it can’t sell anything. iPhones made in India are not for exports.
India is a big market, in some extent like China. Big countries can dictate the rules.

You guys are so incompetent compared to your grandfather generation.

You always have good plan on paper, but always end up as failure. You will no longer be a worthy competitor.

Even 1nm silicone-based is not refreshing anymore.

China has secretly built the EUV light source that can craft chip up to 1nm.

That’s what the silicone-based chip can fare so far.

The real future is photonic chip, and our largest domestic market will enable us to move ahead.

Well, the US is struggling in all domains against China, and their massively bloated GDP doesn’t help at all.

They are desperately asking Vietnam for help, to become their new sweatshop and to establish a new supply chain to contain the original supply chain in China which is now only at disposal for Huawei and other Chinese companies.

The US companies will soon be kicked out without a supply chain.
