Anyone Notice? James Matis @ U.S. Marine Ceremony (in Pakistan)

I dont know why marines have been popularized in american media. They are not any more special than army, NG, navy or airforce.

Their "coveted" dress blues are quite ugly to be honest.
In US Marines are given more importance then any other branch.

.
Should restrict militrary personel to 2 units only ....
Just too many ppl

There should be no need for anymore units , 2 stay at door if there is distubance they close the door and embassy is closed for business

Also road side barracks and unnesessary traffic hinderence should be removed , and US embassy should be encouraged to grow some tall tree on the outside a natrual barrier
what about hundreds of US paid agents and moles in our country.

Exactly and for them army is the least popular. Don't know why marines are glorified there.

don't be deluded by their age. if still in doubt then look up their training regime.
Yes, their taining regime is exceptional. We must keep in mind USMC is not small specialist force - but larger than some regular armies. I think three things mark them out. First their training regime is exceptional. Second every marine, cook, cleaner, general must be proficient as a rifleman. This is something marine culture revovles around. Third, every marine must meet the demanding pysical training - even a 60 year old Marine general has to be able to complete a mile within alloted time. Which is why even senior Marine officers will always look lithe and lean. No excess tubby fat on them unlike our senior officers.

This is 60 year old Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., doing his Combat Fitness Test which included shifting 60 lb ammunition trays.

Just for your info any 1 star Gen equalent to brigadier don't need to pass tough physical tests and the gentlemen you posted above doing it by their own free will (just a show off how fit they are).

My point was USMC has exceptional requirements. A 17 year old marine is expected to do 12 pull ups, a 51 year old senior officer is expected to do 11. That is harsh. Do please check here age/CFT requirements. That is why you will not get a "tubby" Marine.

Rest agreed.

awesome, they are given the best military hardware but their own physical fitness and proficiency is there to match it. those that have military background and experience to see them in action closely can appreciate their abilities. an embadded journalist details how a Marine unit while on the move in Iraq during its unsettled times was ordered to halt near a town and was supposed to wait for further orders. the Marines took up pick axes and shovels and started digging up trenches in the hard surface and setup perimeter defenses with mostly manual labour and had all dug up positions but were told to move on about 15 miles further and setup camp there. without showing any fatigue and bickering they packed up and repeated the same drill 15 miles further in the burning sun and sand with the same proficiency securing the new place with same trenches and sandbaged posts within hours and were ready once again to be told to move on or stay.

.
I dont that is with any good reason.
And army, usaf, us navy, us coast guard and national guard all have identical fitness standards. Heck American society in general has very tough fitness standards.
In US Marines are given more importance then any other branch.

arines have nothing to do with Navy, they are independent force. they are special forces in general terms but not the top tier of American forces like Delta or green berrets and SEALS etc. as far as the argument about who is above and below.. it will be hard for any outsider to gauge that.
Marines , air cavalry, Army rangers and 101 airbourne are all at par with each other (and third word country top tier forces) and maybe baseline special forces of US military and are way ahead of regular army.
green Berrets and part of top tier of special forces.

So how many decades our top tier SFs are behind american top level berrets, delta ,seals, roosie spetsnaz ? We need to catch up in terms of techincal gear or training regime or both?

Male marine is required to complete no of pullups as per his age. It's a minimum of 4 pullups for an 18 Year old, 5 for those who are in 20s and 3 for 51 year old. Not 12 or 11 as you mentioned, those who do more score more points , not a big deal for a soldier.
" Marines must score at least the minimum points on the event selected to pass this test. If unable to meet at least the minimum points, this constitutes a failure of this event and of the PFT."

Females are required to do minimum of one.
