Anti-Pakistan SMS campaign launched in India

NEW DELHI: The Indian government has reportedly launched a SMS campaign to discourage its people from making calls to Pakistan. According to reports, since Jan 21, 2010 a text message is being received on the cell phones in India to exercise extra care while calling anyone in Pakistan. Whenever a call is made to Pakistan, the caller receives a text message, “You just made a call to ISD Code 0092 (Pakistan’s international dialling code). We urge you to exercise caution while calling unknown number and sharing personal details as it can be misused”. app

Every call to pakistan is traced by the Indian govt..... We are not ready to take any kind of a risk..... Hope its clear for You.... we are facing threats from across the border... If this news is true, I do not see any harm in it.... a person with clear Intentions can make calls to pakistan, govt is not going to hang him.... thats why Intelligence agency is for, they track it...

:-) Very humorous!

What a bunch of paranoid Orwellian losers!

Right!!!

First of all, if its true, then read the message, its a simple anti phishing message, there's nothing anti pakistani abt it. This news came out first on

“You just made a call to ISD Code 0092 (Pakistan’s international dialling code). We urge you to exercise caution while calling unknown number and sharing personal details as it can be misused”.

Secondly, the news came out first on daily mail (The Daily Mail - Daily News from Pakistan - Newspaper from Pakistan) - the pakistani fake news portal run by ahmad qureshi, under the name of the fake journalist called ajay mehta, (other being christina palmer :)), then now its being picked up by others verbatim :)

Most likey the news itself s blatently false like the news of indian female prostitutes by the same fellow (AKA ahmed qureshi, the gutterman).

A bunch of orwellian losers, I bet!!!

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

That is not an anti-pak campaign. Any 5 year old can make out that this is a security issue. No where are people being discouraged. They are being asked not to share personal details with unknown people across the border. Heck, even my anti virus says that. Norton is anti-Pakistan too?

Let me clarify couple of things regarding the news coz it seems there is deliberate attempt to make this issue scandalous. This is selective and poor reporting I would say..

1. SMS's are not sent by Indian govt rather by Airtel and the reason is because in past few months lots of airtel customers were receiving missed calls from pakistani numbers and people in a habit were returning call without realizing that they are dialling pakistan number.

2. When people called back they were told that its airtel customer service and were asked to share some personal information.

3. Airtel when received the complaint on this matter started sending out SMS to make customer aware that the number they dialled was a pakistan number not any Indian number and to report any issue if they have faced the same.

few complaints that were registered by users can be found on the link below
airtel sim Complaints - fraud calls from pakistan but predicting are from Dubai

this was reported in Times of India as well the link is below

Police, telecom giants worried over fraud calls - Kolkata - City - The Times of India

it indeed is humorous. Please read my post which has the links of the original news and see how the original article is twisted to make it look like a scandal. I am sure if the reporter is aware about the sms campaign than he would surely be aware of the original issue but we can see how he has selectively reported. I can very well see the low standard of reporting here..

There is nothing anti Pak in this at all. A note of caution is being sounded for a number of reasons.

Pk & Nigeria are turning out to be hubs for all sorts of frauds & pranksters who make calls to make a fast buck.Connivance of locals also cannot be ruled out but the calls / mails originate from outside.

I have received calls informing me of having beel selected for a prize etc. This has been discussed in a thread here.

Sir this is not a security issue but a faud prevention excercise by Airtel which has been attributed to Indian Govt.. Its really a sick mentality of the reporter for selectively picking bits from here and there. Another attempt to brainwash people I would say..

Thats right, I use a AIRTEL connection & when I recd a call from a number starting with 92 I mistook it to be from a Tata Indicom No & was surprised to see a Airtel offer coming from a Tata No.

Thats when I checked back & reported to Airtel.
