He made a controversial comment few years back about Prophet Muhammad & Hajj. He was Awami League leader but due to such remarks on Hajj he was thrown out from the party. He is contesting this election as an independent candidate. He was attacked by Awami activists for which he is protesting by fasting till death.

Abdul Latif Siddiqui, an independent candidate of Tangail-4, fell sick as he has been continuing his fast unto death for the second consecutive day today demanding withdrawal of Tangail’s Kalihati Police Station's officer-in-charge.

A two-member medical team led by Tangail Civil Surgeon Dr Sharif Hossain visited Latif Siddiqui found 11:00am and requested him to get admitted to a hospital.

But he refused to go to the hospital or taking any saline, reports our Tangail correspondent

“I’ll not withdraw my strike until my demands are met,” Latif said.

WHY DID LATIF START HUNGER STRIKE?
He started staging a sit-in on Sunday on the Tangail returning officer's office premises demanding the arrest of those who attacked his motorcade on the same day.

A day after the demo, he yesterday began a fast unto death also demanding the withdrawal of Kalihati Police Station's officer-in-charge and a peaceful electioneering environment.

According to his family, Latif had not eaten anything since breakfast on Sunday before the sit-in.

He yesterday told reporters that the Election Commission will be held responsible if anything happens to him.

WHAT HAPPANED TO LATIF ON SUNDAY?
At least 10 people were hurt and four cars were vandalised during an attack on the motorcade of Abdul Latif Siddiqui, an independent candidate for Tangail-4, in Kalihatiupazila'sGohaliabari.

Talking to reporters on yesterday, Latif alleged that 20 to 25 supporters of Awami League candidate for the constituency Hasan Imam Khan Sohel Hazari threw brick chips at his motorcade.

He claimed that when they took shelter in a nearby house, the attackers swooped on them.

Latif submitted a complaint to Returning Officer Md Shaidul Islam, who asked the electoral enquiry committee to investigate it.
