The Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles Friday condemned the killing of a Chinese graduate student at the University of Southern California (USC) shortly after midnight, warning other Chinese students to be more alert.

Police investigators said that 24-year-old Xinran Ji was assaulted with a blunt object at 12:45 am Thursday local time (0945 GMT) near the USC campus while walking back to his nearby apartment, where he apparently succumbed to his injury on head. The motive for the attack is still under investigation.

In a statement issued in Chinese, the Consulate General said it is shocked by the cruel and harsh nature of the case and it asked the US authorities to arrest the killer as soon as possible and take more measures to protect Chinese students in the United States.

Two years ago, two other Chinese graduate students were gunned down near campus.

The Consulate General also said it has reminded Chinese students to be more alert and take further protection steps.

So, it was near the campus....whatever, gunshot in campus is very common.

No it wasn't gunshot. Was hit with blunt object.

just noticed that...fk, this is even worse! Maybe it's a kill in revenge. We have many cases, illustrated that Chinese students were killed by acquaintance or close friends.

Have you been to the US? A few years ago, my friends almost got into a fight while riding Amtrak train with some black folks.
I don't know what Chinese perception of America, but it's not as safe as China. You cannot walk in downtown area (financial district) area in most major US cities at night.

No, but I can imagine how horrible it is. Asians in the US are the most vulnerable to be hurt. China is OK, except some cities in Guangdong, my friends told me there are many robbery in motorbikes, but, never worse than to be killed. In most Chinese cities, it's safe, although there are some thieves.

there's a racism attack campaign to Vietnamese immigrants ( from Republic of Vietnam ) after Vietnam War in USA during 1979-1981
But the case settled after US, KKK know the fact that don't tease the people from a country just suffered a long war.
They are familiar with firearm and dont hesitate to shoot back once was provoked.

Racial tensions
Animosity between white and Vietnamese shrimpers came to a boiling point in 1979 when, in Seadrift, a tiny fishing community near Port Lavaca, two Vietnamese brothers were charged in the shooting death of Billy Joe Aplin, a crabber. The men were acquitted on grounds of self-defense, which outraged white fishermen.
The leader of the white shrimpers asked the Klan to step in, and Klansmen soon threatened violence if the Vietnamese didn't leave Galveston Bay. Two Vietnamese boats were burned.

Hooded Klansmen with semiautomatic assault weapons circled the bay in a shrimp boat, near Nguyen's home. Above their boat dangled a human effigy, and on the boat was a cannon. They fired a blank round that boomed across the bay.

On another day, a Molotov cocktail was tossed under an Asian shrimper's home.

Let's see what the consulate can do, if they really care Chinese citizen.

Well we don't know if he was a Chinese citizen or an American citizen, does every Chinese American have an English name?

It's high probability that he is a Chinese citizen, or we can say he is a F1 visa Chinese graduate, since consulate issued statement in Chinese, they never 多管闲事.

Many American born Chinese have English names

Well Chinese consulate can't do much other than telling the Americans to give some priority in the investigation. Don't know who did, what the motives are. Too early to say if this has anything to do with racism.
