Another Chinese Acquisition Goes Bankrupt -- Saab

This is not to gloat but only to opine.

The Chinese investors should not have gotten involved in this deal. On the surface, it looked attractive enough, Saab was a brand associated with BMW level of engineering and quality. I drive a 2001 Saab 9-5 SE. It is a good car. But Saab made a risky move when the company agreed to be acquired by GM and it did not paid off. GM bought Saab because GM wanted to gain a foothold into the 'Euro' discriminating American buyers market, meaning Americans who have money and would drive nothing but BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, and yes, Saab. GM neglected Saab and let the brand languish in terms of investing new technology to elevate it above BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo. GM could not afford to have Saab surpass Cadillac and the engineers at Saab could have done it -- easily. With GM's capital and technology reserves, Saab could have bested BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo. It was a contradiction that puzzled many Saab investors and car owners like myself: Why bought the brand if you are not going make it better?

In a way, I feel sorry for the Chinese investors.

Good to see the most ugly cars disappear together with their producer. It's a disappointed thing that car brands like Jaguar is not owned by Chinese companies.

There is no acquisition, but GM only owns ~10% or so of the license, so SAAB will probably sell off the ~80% of the technology that they do own anyway.

Recently Mahindra & Mahindra of India have purchased a Korean company Ssangyong Motors which was goes bankrupt under the ownership of chinese company who have acquired it to steal technology and expertise of Ssangyong Motors.

In simple words they have not made intelligent decision, can not manage the deal and lost money that's the thread is about.

They just throw money without doing market research and studies.

The chinese companies have tried hard but Indian company have purchased it and now it have all the technology, assets etc.

The most important thing one likes to remember is that is related to this thread is that its not everyone's cup of tea to turnaround or run a successful venture.

Indian company is doing well with Jaguar Land Rover

Shame. I used to love SAAB cars, they're so sexy :D

It is just a small business matter. And by any rate, China is still in learning stages with regard to auto production and once they learn it then all auto producers of Europe and US will go bankrupt and all the cars in the world will become Chinese as electronics has become. Saab is just a failed auto whose time was due.

Yes,China is declining while India is shining:rofl: that's your dream. Just beg and pray for it. Poor Indians
India has also slowed..we grew at 7.5% but the bad seems to be gone now..food inflation is 1.81% ..lower than China's.
China's problem has started..be prepared
My sympathies.:bad:

Feel sorry for the SAAB going down.

A good car maker.

I think Volvo cars is also owned by a Chinese company and is doing ok.
