If she make minimum, her pre tax take home month pay should be $1386.68, which should work out to be 85,973 in rupee per month to legally work in the US. This is the minimum wage of 8$ per hour. Now, how is that a lot of money. If she cannot even pay $1386 per month to hire the maid, then the diplomat do not deserve to have the maid.

US do not break the law of those nations. The Indian diplomat is paying a wage that is considered slave labor in the US. when you are in the US, follow the US law. How difficult is that to understand.

Embassies are based on Principle of Extraterritoriality ....
an Embassy is a sovereign post of the respective country and therefore are rendered inviolable
( The precise reason why England can't arrest Julian assange as long as he stays inside the premises of Ecuador embassy despite being within British jurisdiction . )
and therefore within the embassies the laws of parent country applies ....

US laws therefore should be applicable within US embassies ....

US has penchant to enforce their laws on others ....but not itself .

This has nothing to do with Indian embassy. It has to do with a vice consular in the NY consulate office. Learn the difference between consulate and diplomatic immunity. She has no diplomatic immunity and must abide by the US law. Even if she is a diplomatic with diplomatic immunity, her personal residence is still under the jurisdiction of the US law. Only the ambassador's personal residence cover under diplomatic protection.

See this is the problem with threats. If you get called on them, it can be extremely embarrassing when ultimately there is nothing you can do.

If I were a psychologist I would say India is lashing out due to an interesting combination of insecurity and inexperience on the world stage. While it may appear to be an inflated sense of self-worth, I think stating "the world has changed" is very telling.

For such a bright People, some Indians are being immensely short-sighted and reactionary to this story.

India mindset believe US losing ground on world stage and need to accommodate India demand when the need arrived, low and behold US status in the world never vanish or lose ground to anyone for any nation. US will enforce the law according to US law when it justifiable to do so on the US land, no nation can demand US for an apology or toil the line of any nation on this planet earth.
